This is a frustrating process. Garmin should really consider fire the entire QA team.

Yes, same here. Vacationing in Europe and it took me days to get to a PC to download Europe Topoactive after finding out wi-fi map update doesn’t work. Now after finally getting the map, I find out that save location is broken. Frustrating..
My Garmin Forerunner 965 has a problem saving locations using the start button. The start button will not save my location. Also old saved locations have disappeared. It used to work fine. If you are experiencing this, please perform a full restore to defaults (Menu > System > Reset > Delete Data & Reset Settings) on the watch. Make sure you sync to Garmin Connect first, and save any necessary settings by following Can I Back up My Information and Settings on My Garmin Device?
After you reset the device, you will need to follow the steps from Remove and Add a Device From the Garmin Connect App to add it back to the app.
If resetting the device does not resolve this, please reach out to Garmin Product Support directly.
Please keep in mind you DO lose some settings. Although I backupped my entire GARMIN folder; after restoring my arrangement of data fields among others were not restored.
But the fix did work. I can now save locations again
Agreed, I was able to save locations again but lost all of the arrangements of data fields even after backing up the Garmin Folder as instructed, another hour of remembering how I had everything setup.
I cannot however sync with Garmin Explore anymore. I was trying to upload a set of 29 waypoints to the saved Location file and was not able to with Garmin explore

The Save Locations function now works but this is not a satisfactory trade off spending hours resetting things and reselecting my music as it is far too time consuming. This issue seemed to happen since the last update. Garmin should resolve this through another update. I am not convinced it is only a few users having this issue. More like a lot of users just dont realise the Save Location and Garmin Explore have issues as they don't use them??
