heart rate values totally wrong after update 18.22

did a run today with my forerunner 955 (update version 18.22 from today):

first km slow: pace 6:04 min/km, av. heart rate 151

then 5 km fast with pace 4:51 min/km; av. heart rate 133 ?? (my common hear rate at that pace should be 180-190)
a sudden drop of the heart rate appeared approximately at the change of pace

  • I’ve upvoted many months ago but haven’t been contacted. For the first year and half owning this watch the heart rate was fine. I usually wear a chest strap but for the times I don’t wear it (long runs, races), it’s annoying to not get proper heart rate.

Is it possible to downgrade the firmware back to when it was working? I’m happy to lose the new features as long as I don’t lose my activity and fitness data.

  • Hi

    Any update?

The FR955 is 2.5 year on the market; I own the FR955 for almost 2 years now.

This issue exists since I've the watch.

Multiple examples are shared by me and many other users.

What's the status? Any idea if it is firware or hardware related?

I run with my old Suunto T6C with chest strap, but also with the OHR of the Venu 3S; both shows correct values, while the FR955 showes incorrect values, makiing this EUR 600 costing watch useless, as all metrics are using the OHR.

  • today first run in colder weather and back again with same HR spikes issues....Garmin working on firmware bug release or new HR sensor in new coming watches? how can this be solved?

  • This is definitely a software issue. It has worked well before FW 17.xx.

Now they tried to tune OHRS on FW 21.14b-16b, it is more responsive now, but it brings new issues - wrong LTHR calculation and more - you can see it all on a beta forum. At least they are trying to do something.

  • Good examples! I've had the watch for over 2 years and it's been like this out of the box. No firmware update has made any improvements.

  • I also have the same problems with the FR 955 and Firmware 20.32. I have also done a comparison measurement with the Polar H10. Same activity - indoor rowing, Garmin above, H10 below

  • My next watch will be from a different company.
We have a few Garmin watches in our family and are very unhappy about this problem. No official comments, nothing....

  • All,

Thank you very much for your continued feedback regarding your heart rate data during activities. Since we have released software version 21.19 I am going to lock this thread. Please create a new thread if you still have heart rate accuracy concerns on sw 21.19.
