heart rate values totally wrong after update 18.22

did a run today with my forerunner 955 (update version 18.22 from today):

first km slow: pace 6:04 min/km, av. heart rate 151

then 5 km fast with pace 4:51 min/km; av. heart rate 133 ?? (my common hear rate at that pace should be 180-190)
a sudden drop of the heart rate appeared approximately at the change of pace

  • In the last activities in both 19.18 and 20.15 I have not seen this problem again. The logs seem normal. Yesterday I received an update, "Forerunner Configuration 2.01", which I have no idea what it is or if it has anything to do with this, but hey, I'll try it again today.

  • Thank you. Yes, I have used this and other watches in this way but I never noticed any changes. More than anything I have made it for practical use. Likewise, I don't remember exactly where, whether in the manual or somewhere else, but there was a recommendation not to use it like that during sports practice. Despite this I will continue to use it like this when I need it :)

  • Hello ,

another commuting day, another two examples.

First is not so obvious, still the pulse is wrong (too low) from start.

Second one is super obvious. Pulse suddenly jumps 50 beats up… Also here it was too low from start, the later values are roundabout correct.

This is really a serious bug. Personally I wouldn’t mind the optical HR being off by 5 or maybe sometimes 10 beats, as for sports activities I use external HRM strap.
But 50 beats off is in no way acceptable, even for seldom commuting.

  • My forerunner 255 is only months old and no longer accurately records any of my high intensity runs. There are no significant rapid spikes, but my heart rate is consistently showing anywhere from 40-60 bpm less than it should. So many metrics are based off accurate heart rate measurements, so now I am in a 'recovery' training status, my training load is 'low' etc. Here is an example of a race running at 2:36 /km pace, but at 62 bpm, and then remaining too low throughout the entire run.

  • Hi ,

unfortunately I have again new examples. I was riding the bike again for a short trip in the city, wearing no external HRM.

The HR charts again suffer from being too low at the start and having HUGE jumps.

PLEASE investigate and try to fix!

  • I've the issue with abnormal heart rate during the first ~20 minutes every running activity.

Today I did a running activity with a FR955 (Red)  on my left arm and a Venu 3S (Blue) on my right arm.

See image underneath for the ridiculous differences during the first 12 minutes (this time frame is different each activity).

A difference of about 37 bpms in the first 12 minutes.

After that period, the heart rate was quite similar.

  • Yeah really bad readings. Always massively underestimates the rates. Even worse with short hard intervals. This will also drastically affect the performance readings you get into each activity. Making people think they are a lot fresher than they actually are.

This is my go to example of the issue that I've witnessed for over 2 years.

    Strap —

    Built in optical

This is making the builtin optical pointless and even dangerous use.

The Training Effect is completely wrong on the optical HRM (right hand side)

  • I too am having issues with my HRV, heart rate, and sleep scores:

During a cycling activity, the above will typically occur. Huge spike in heart rate at the beginning of an activity.

Additionally, my HRV is discombobulated due to gaps in readings:

Above is just two examples, causing my sleep score and training readiness to absolutely plummet.

Typical runs that I’d average in the 140s for my HR are way up in the 150s/160s even.

I have the Forerunner 955 Solar running 19.18. Can send my unit ID if necessary. I didn’t have this issue prior to this update (4+ months ago)
