heart rate values totally wrong after update 18.22

did a run today with my forerunner 955 (update version 18.22 from today):

first km slow: pace 6:04 min/km, av. heart rate 151

then 5 km fast with pace 4:51 min/km; av. heart rate 133 ?? (my common hear rate at that pace should be 180-190)
a sudden drop of the heart rate appeared approximately at the change of pace

  • Try disable OHR before you head out for your next run

  • Good shout :-). It will be interesting to see what metrics it gives me with chest strap only, and also if the connection to the chest strap sometimes drops.

  • Hello you can see as below that a false HR data at the begin of a run with the watch placed on the top of the wrist was corrected by simply rotating the watch upsidown the wrist.

It is years that doctors and coah measure the HR placing a finger on the bottom of the wrist and not on the top.

YELLOW marked was the wrong raising HR dropped when I moved the watch down the wrist. Was quite accurate since than

  • then give me a photo of your wrist

  • That was also the position of the Garmin watch of the woman winner at Milan Marathon…it means something I presume

  • I use 15.19 and i was happy, but now i have the same issue like before :-(

  • Hi, Fenix 6 Pro Solar

My pulse readings are ca 15-20 bpm too low after updating the software 5 days ago.

    Male, 44 years old.

    I have logged 2 runs since the update, a 5 K 2 days ago and and 8 K today

My average pulse according to Garmin has dropped to 128 bpm during an 8 K run, which is definitely not the case. Max pulse during the run is also way too low.

I have made no changes to routines or anything else. Sensors are clean and I wear the watch the same way I always do.

My real pulse during the 8 K run should be ca. Average 145 bpm and Max pulse 162-165.

Nothing has changed besided the update.

Can u look into an extra update to fix this issue as all intensity measures on Garmin and Strava are too low (wrong) as a result of this.

  • Hi-- FR255 here. Not sure how much synchronization there is between models, but I'm on 18.27 via the Beta program, and have no complaints about the HR tracking. I run regularly and have compared with my old watch (FR745) and found consistent performance that makes sense. Which firmware did your Fenix get updated to? Looks like possibly the latest is 21.01, which dates from 2022...

  • Fenix 7 Pro Solar Sapphire here. Bought it this week, and already seeing problems. On 16.22 atm.

This is pretty much my experience. Low heart rate during activities, by 30-60 bpm. Ran a 5k time trial max effort the other day: my max HR typically goes above 180 and the activity average was 40 bpm lower than it should’ve been. Activity was started after a 40min warmup, watch worn tight as usual.

I have been taking manual readings during other lower intensity activities with fingers on neck to compare, but will be getting a strap to monitor this.

The annoying thing is that my 255M OHR has worked very well for years: how is a newer Fenix worse? How have Garmin managed to completely bork their flagship watches? Why do they insist on telling users they are wearing them wrong, as if they haven’t been wearing previous generations for years with success?
