Speculations about the long delay in updates and new features?

Any thoughts on why Garmin is not providing any updates or patches recently?

5 months ago, myself and other identified a problem with Garmin devices not picking up run cadence properly when a smart trainer is near by. It was acknowledged by Garmin, both in these forums and during a support phone call. While the interim fix is to unplug my smart trainer when using my treadmill, this really is not a long term solution, and this problem never existed prior to the last HUB update.

I have been patiently waiting for Garmin to fix this, but I am not starting to get concerned with their lack up updates.

Many other are waiting/wanting feature updates and other fixes (Jaybird headphones as one example)

My only guess is perhaps they are focusing on a replacement model, but it sure would be nice if they would at least fix problems they have introduced.

  • There are some features which promised

    By whom? Not Garmin.

  • All confirmed things collected here are implemented? No. But by whom they are confirmed?

I'm curious as to why you show 14 updates per device, but instead of averaging them by the first and last 7 you choose different updates on each to compute your averages?

  • Because since April 2020.

OK, but then you only have an average since then and not an average between all updates.  The rest is meaningless.  And does more updates by the Fenix mean more benefits or a lack in stability for that watch?  I'm just trying to figure out what you're trying to prove or ask by the comparison.

  • but then you only have an average since then and not an average between all updates.

Sorry, but I don't understand your remark. What do you mean under "average since" and "average between all updates"?

In the table there are two averages for two periods: before April 2020 and after (excluding current version of SW). What exactly is wrong?

And does more updates by the Fenix mean more benefits or a lack in stability for that watch?

It can be both. But most important it can indicate that active development is continued for that product.

I'm just trying to figure out what you're trying to prove or ask by the comparison.

On the last picture I am comparing the frequency/lifetime of public and stable updates for Forerunner and Fenix for two periods: before April 2020 and after. And I did not ask here anything, I just provided the information and my thoughts in scope of the subject of thread.

  • The next beta will be perhaps based on CIQ4?

  • In my opinion the system is not mature because the sleep tracking is horrible and Garmin already has the best, this is how you see the comments on the Fenix Line. Another question, how to explain the delay in updates to the 745 that was released this year? If you follow the logic of the post, there is something wrong. So, there is only one explanation: A new product and they are dedicating their time to it.

  • Some fresh news from the new kid on the block DC review: Venu2

Last fall Garmin introduced on-device sleep tracking to the Fenix 6, but then paused roll-out after running into some issues. Things resumed again with the Garmin Enduro about two months ago, and the train appears fully back on the tracks now with the Venu 2/2S. It sounds like Garmin is pretty confident in where they’ve got the algorithms to at this point to get the broader roll-out plans back on track (namely for the FR745/945)

  • The next beta will be perhaps based on CIQ4?

I doubt it. I would guess that CIQ4 is reserved only to new devices. They might backport some features to older CIQ versions, CIQ4 has new graphics stuff.
