Is the button issue resolved now?

After receiving a 945 a couple of months ago and seeing reports here of buttons not clicking that the up and down buttons on mine were quite squishy.

i didn't see much point exchanging at the time as replacements looked to be the same or worse.

Wondering at this stage if the issue has been fixed 100% or is it still current on new ones as otherwise this one is working ok.

For me the down button clicks if left a couple of seconds between pushes while the up button never clicks.

i'd like to know I'm getting one that's better before swapping otherwise it's not worth the inconvenience.

I'm in Australia if that makes any difference to the batches being sent out.

  • The revision D is the revision status of the box, not the watch.

  • Yes, the problem is not totally fixed with Rev D, 5W9.... My up button is not like the others, but at least it works, so...

No idea is there newer revisions and do they have any more improvements to issue.

Hoping that next watches would have new buttons which would have great tactile feedback and feel, as that's major part of the UX.

  • I just bought mine 3 months ago. The box says rev A.

I think it is really the rev of the watch. Because I know the watch was pre-installed with a very very old firmware.

I think firmware 2.XX or something.

The buttons do not have good feeling but they are workable though.

  • To add on, it doesn't make sense to manufacture new watches and pack with old boxes or old watches with new boxes.

Usually the watches are packed together with the boxes within the same period.

So the rev is referring to the box and watch together.

  • So the rev is referring to the box and watch together

I don't know for certain, but I believe this to be the case too. My husband and I bought our 945's together when they were first released, (rev A). My husband was concerned about sticky buttons and exchanged his about 9 months ago, (rev D).  We have both boxes and the printing and packaging is the same.  It doesn't make any sense to me why you need to track a cardboard box and nothing else by changing the rev identifier.

  • It's fair to assume that devices produced later are packed in newer boxes, but that revision number is associated with a part number. It says 007-03296-0 rev D. That is not a part number for a 945, which will be something like 010-02063-01 and is printed near the bar code on the box. Google "garmin  010-02063-01" and the 945 pops up on Garmin's website. Google " Garmin 007-03296-0" and nothing comes up on Garmin's website because they don't sell the box on its own.  Moreover, the box consists of two parts, each with their own part number. The part number for the bottom half of my box is 007-03297-01 Rev A, even though the top half says Rev D.

So the Rev is associated with the part number of the box, while the part number of the watch has remained the same throughout. As I said, a later revision box will presumably contain a more recently produced watch, but there is nothing to indicate that the Rev status refers to anything other than the box itself.

  • Yeah I did try to Google the part number on the box.

I'm more inclined to think the rev is indeed for the box.

But I thought newer boxes will correlate with new manufacturing.

  • I may have misunderstood the point, but why would a manufacturer carefully note the revision number of a box and what on earth would it refer to? Since we know the watch has undergone physical revisions, isn’t it logical to assume the revision number on the box is intended to tell you something about the batch identity of the item inside it?

  • I have a FR945 Revision D and the cancel button (right bottom button) stopped working 3 months into ownership... I contacted Garmin support for a replacement. After reading this thread, maybe I should ask to get a Fenix 6 instead? The garmin support people on this thread seem to say that Rev D fixes this issue but here I am, with a new rev D and one button is already broken after 3 months... Argg, I've owned a FR235 for 4 years and never had an issue, I was blindly assuming the FR945 would be a slam dunk... Of all things, the buttons fail... So sad for Garmin, they've always had stellar products. Now I will test the Garmin support and see how well they deal with the situation...

  • arg, thanks for the heads up, I was thinking of returning my FR945 [cancel button not working AT ALL anymore] for a Fenix 6 but now I'm not sure what exactly I should do...
