Is the button issue resolved now?

After receiving a 945 a couple of months ago and seeing reports here of buttons not clicking that the up and down buttons on mine were quite squishy.

i didn't see much point exchanging at the time as replacements looked to be the same or worse.

Wondering at this stage if the issue has been fixed 100% or is it still current on new ones as otherwise this one is working ok.

For me the down button clicks if left a couple of seconds between pushes while the up button never clicks.

i'd like to know I'm getting one that's better before swapping otherwise it's not worth the inconvenience.

I'm in Australia if that makes any difference to the batches being sent out.

  • one button is already broken after 3 months

Is it not functioning properly? Is it just your subjective feel?

  • I press on the button and nothing happens. There is nothing subjective about that. It worked, it doesn't work anymore.

  • I’ve had a 5W903 (rev D?) for a year and the buttons are mushy and getting worse.

Is it worth reaching out to Garmin for a replacement? It was a gift so I don’t have a receipt.

Wouldn't hurt to try. Worst that could happen is they say no.

  • In which case you need to contact Garmin Support.

Most of the posts about buttons are about the subjective feel. It's only a very few cases that report actual button failure.

  • correct, people mention "mushy" "feel". Mine is an outright failure. I checked my invoice and I bought it October 20th (so, less than 3 months old, version D). Very sad. The watch is awesome, so sad to see a failure on the thing that probably cost so little (the buttons). Whoever designed the buttons didn't spend too much QE time pressing the buttons a zillion times. The buttons on my FR235 still work 4 years into ownership. FR945 fails in less than 3 months, not good. Sad for the Garmin software engineers who put together such a great watch...

  • UPDATE: I contacted Garmin support and they didn't ask any follow-up questions to my very first detailed support request about the broken button and remediations that I tried (reboot, dip on lukewarm water for 10 minutes, etc). They sent me an email, I clicked on the link, page opened with instructions on how to exchange for a new one. Also got an email from Garmin support explaining the process and contact info should I need more info. Link to UPS to print a label with my address and Garmin's address. I packaged the watch and am dropping it off tomorrow (instructions included the 3 drop off locations nearest to me). Worth noting that today is a Sunday and they replied to my request from yesterday (Saturday) today!!! A Sunday! The whole process was VERY expedited and flawless. The FR945 is a great watch (I had the FR235 for 4 years) and I hope they fix the buttons. I'll follow up to mention if the buttons feel like they've been redesigned or not. But kudos on the support Garmin! I make mistakes too and you remediated this one very well.

  • Have you never purchased anything else that has failed shortly after buying? Doesn't happen very often but it does happen irrespective of the price of the product.

  • Bought 945 2 weeks ago. On the box it said rev D.

Immediatly i noticed that the back button had a crackling feeling. Sometimes when pushed the button would get stuck. I had to press it several times to get it loose.

Send the watch immediatly back and are Awaiting a new one. Hope this one is ok...

  • I have just exchanged my 935 with 945 last week. After first use i had the same feeling sticky/2 click when i press the ‘down button’.I took it back and my local distributor/service immediately change with a new one.It is D version but also have the same feeling in back and down buttons. As i read from the forum it doesn’t matter which version you had as all the device has button issues.I think who is more sensitive about this touch to the buttons have rised this to the forum and others live with it.I would be happy to hear any announce from Garmin.I used 310xt for 9 years with no problem.I had 935 for 2,5 years and it had thermometer, barometer, altitude wrong and extreme high numbers issue that was the reason i upgrade 945.And now again a problem.Garmin has a really good design and features but i am dissapointed with the quality now.
