FR255 Altimeter flatlines during runs only - works great for other activities

I went on a short run yesterday and today. Both times, the altimeter data had the correct starting value but it didn’t change at all during the run, when there should have been at least 50 ft difference from high to low.

strangely, it works great for biking and walking on the same roads. Today my run was immediately after a bike ride, and the ride worked and the run didn’t.

seems like the issue could have coincided with the latest firmware update but I wasn’t paying close enough attention to be sure.

Sensor port is clear. Altimeter and Barometer both set to default auto settings I’m at a loss!

Anyone else having this issue?

do you wait the extra 30 seconds before starting the activity as Garmin says to help the sensors to be calibrated in each activity? in this cases in your runs

Even if the calibration is far off, there should still be changes in altitude from the pressure sensor.

Hi,

Same issue here, that first occured just after installing firmware 20.26. Fix I found : opening the ABC widget on the watch right before starting a run activity. Hope this helps (and that the bug will be solved by the next FW).

after installed this firmware i realized rare behaviors, i reset to default, doesnt solve, and finally i did 2 full factory reset + deleting all data, and by now looks like its working fine, better than 19.18, the barometer sensor too

Thanks for the ABC idea, will give it a shot for my next run. Also found out that the altimeter worked fine for a “trail run” activity, so that’s another potential workaround.

Same issue here until I reset my watch...now it displays fasle elevation during the activity, even if I do a calibration of my altimeter / barometer.

I have the same problem, it is happening only for runs, other activities are fine and even for runs it sometimes works. I thought it is just problem of beta version
