Abnormally high heart rate during the first part of the training

I've been part of the beta program for a few months but I've never had any problems like this. I currently have installed the v. 17.26

During the first minutes of last two running workouts, the HR was abnormally high, then returning to normal levels until the end.

I've attached the two charts to show what I'm talking about.

Is anyone else experiencing similar problems?

  • What was the cadence at the time the heart frequency was wrong? Sometimes if the watch can't find the actual heart rate, it locks on to the running cadence instead.

  • Here is a screenshot of the cadence

  • Looks very similar to your indicated heart rate before it found the real heart rate.

  • I don't know what your mean, I don't see any relation between the cadence and the HR anomaly.

Moreover, the watch has never given this type of problems. I think could be a bug with the firmware version. Such as repeated rest days in the training plan, as has already been reported by many other users.

  • I have so many HR data error since last firmware version.. 150 when I walk, and 90 when I cycling..

  • I have had this cadence / heart rate issue happening now and then for many years with different watches. You had a running cadence of 170 steps per minute, and this movement will of course create a signal that is picked up by the sensors. It tries to filter it out, but sometimes the heart rate and cadence can be close, making it difficult.

I don't see any reason to think this is related in any way to the bug with suggested exercise.

The sensor firmware is regularly tuned, and I guess Garmin aims to make it better for the average customer. Sometimes it can turn out worse for some users. I used to have too low readings for my gym sessions, and the watch has become more accurate for me after the last couple of updates.

  • I've already said that I never ever had this specific issue on in any of my Garmin sportwatches, even with my former FR 245.

    I definitely think it's a bug issue.

  • But even if you didn't see it before, does not mean it was not there before. It has been discussed for years in Garmin forums. Maybe the latest sensor tune does not suit you well.

  • Ok, I think this discussion could end here.

  • We've been investigating an issue where OHR data is randomly spiking/dropping during activities, across a few of our different models. Please see the main thread for the Forerunner 955 regarding this: High Heart Rate
