[17.24][17.26] Lags, Freezes and missing data

Since the update to 17.24/17.26 my Forerunner 255 shows several bugs:

  • Starting the morning report today lead to extremely laggy behaviour. Every interaction/loading of a new page took minutes(!), with even getting stuck in the transition between the morning report pages (showing half of the previous page and have of the following page for a minute).
After i got to restart it, it was working again, but i noticed the watch drained 28% of battery within less than 24h, with only a 20min activity tracked.
  • Some days before the watch froze completely upon starting the morning report and restarted itself.
  • Twice in the last days it lost data from the past night: heartrate, body battery and stress data is missing in Garmin Connect from exactly midnight until the first wake phase. HRV however is there.

Am I the only one encountering those issues?

  • How do you sync data then ? U also on forerunner 255 music model?

  • Yes, I have the 255 Music version, and I sync by Wifi.

  • Yes seems like a Bluetooth issue. I have turned off all permissions on my phone thus severeing the connection with my watch. Now my watch no longer drains battery or freezes of course it also lost a lot of functionality.

Changing to a default watch face did not help me.

  • So you're telling me I should unpair Bluetooth from my watch and what all permissions should I close?

Then data will not sync via Bluetooth only wifi.

I can't even sync with wifi no more the missing data.

It's a new watch lol so frustrating that if I wanna repair it or wait it out idk

Garmin service center told me it needed replacement

  • It is probably enough to disable bluetooth temporarily from the watch side until Garmin fixes the issue.

  • This is a brand new watch that's why it bothers me

    I'll try and disable Bluetooth.

Since I have tried everything else

  • I think the idea is that with bluetooth disabled, you won't have the related freezes and so sync over wifi will work, like it does for ovekvam.

It's ironic, I have the non-music and sync over bluetooth works for me (no wifi option). Maybe the two features collide, or maybe it's just that I use so little of the Garmin Connect features that I don't trigger the bugs. I already have almost all app permissions disabled, and I also don't leave the phone connection enabled on the watch during normal day to day use.

  • I agree with ovekvam

On my 255s music, i had the problem of crazy battery drain and had no apps installed.

My strong suspicion is a Bluetooth software problem between the app on your phone and the watch. (My problems were fixed by a battery drain and an os reinstall of my phone, and now i have no problems with the watch or the phone app.)

My suggestion would be try a full battery drain on the watch and an uninstall of the app on you phone (data is all in the cloud anyway). Then charge the watch, install the app on your phone, log in in the app on your phone, the re-add your watch (i did this with qr code watch can display).

(It might also be enough to fully power down the watch.)

    Am curious if this works.

  • Same here, have problems with the optical heartrate sensor,  After the last update it stops working while im doing a activity. Soft restart works for 5 a 10 min then it will stops again.

  • I just bought Forerunner 255s for 3 weeks. Do I have any chance to make a refund because nothing working on my Smartwatch.
    - Step counter, heart rate, sleep, body battery not working.
    - Notification freezes and random crash.
    - The activities not work too, I choose walking and swim but some time it auto press stop and stop to measure my activity

    - Battery drain 50% in a night (rarely)
