Heart Rate Way Off after 13.17

Venu 3 automatically updated to the 13.17 software. After update, my heart rate data is not even close to accurate. It's worse when doing activities (watch says 60s, Heart Rate is 130s) but also off when not in activity by +-20.

contacted Garmin support multiple times and they tell me there has been no issues with the update and heart rate. My data was fine before I updated and very accurate

anybody else have this problem?

  • Happened again last Tuesday, HR too low for the first 1.5 KM, then normalized. Also the counter for "climbed floors" is way off since the last couple of updates. What is happening with Garmin after the blue boot-loop?

  • I could definitly reproduce that there is GPS relation.

    • I am in an activity with GPS and face the too low heart beat rate.
    • Then I stop the activity.
    • immediately the measured heart rate goes up to the right value.
  • i have similar problem sice update, except heart rate shown on Garmin is between 50 to 90% higher than actual, except in sleep mode, then normal

  • i have same issue since software update, except hear rate is 40 to 90% higher than actual. Scary!.

  • Same issue here! It happens during the ' walking' activity. Either the heart rate is way too low at the start and fixes itself 10 minutes in. Or it drops dramatically during the walk. I really need this issue to be resolved.

  • Did you ever get this solved? After the latest update my heart rate monitor has been under representing my actual heart rate too. I'll be sweating and breathing heavy only to have my heart rate registering at 98. I just played 90 minutes of volleyball and According to the watch I barely moved.

  • It's sporadic, but definitely doing odd things. Apparently I cycled up a steep hill back to home at the end of a ride tonight at just a smidgen over my resting heart rate all of the way up! Either I've turned into MvdP or this thing is talking bobbins.

Will be raising with support tomorrow morning

  • Same boat here, treadmill running is showing around 50bpm lower than it what it used to be, I'm using heart rate transmission though and turning it off seems to improve, oddly enough, it showing the current rate when the workout is done. Garmin is on a constant roll to eff with the functionality after each update: Garmin assistance dead, accurate heart rate dead too, my bet for the next update that watch will not show the right time, constant 5 minutes late or 62 seconds minute

  • Further update on mine. I've noticed this a few times recently and always when using the "broadcast heart rate" option although, to be fair, I only use this on my bike and this is the only time I really notice my heart rate being incorrect.

Last night's example, highlighted below. There is *no way* that I switched from flat riding to a hill climb without seeing *any* variation in my heart rate as shown below:

It sat at <90 throughout which, for me, is exceptionally low during exercise. I'd expect 100 just doing a steady walk. Note that it wasn't "stuck" - i.e. the values varied throughout - it was just plain wrong.

    to answer your questions:

    1. Yes you can email me
    2. Yes you can access my account (activity above dated 6:17pm on 14/4)
    3. I live in the UK
    4. No beta software installed
    5. Heart rate was incorrect reading low under obvious load
    6. Using "broadcast heart rate" to a Garmin Edge 830
    7. Road Cycling. Wrist strap was tight so watch was secure on the arm throughout and no dropouts seen.
    8. Holding a handlebar throughout. Watch on left arm.
    9. Comparing results to perceived effort. As mentioned above, there's no way that I could ride up that hill with no change in my heart rate. Based on previous experience, I'd have expected a HR of around 150 throughout the climb and probably 100+ on the flat section before due to headwind, but watched reported <90 throughout.

    This is a Venu 3 running 13.19

I'll also raise with support today.

  • May I ask where the graph information you provided came from? When I review the cycling activity you specified in Garmin Connect I see a very different heart rate pattern. I want to make sure I am doing an apples to apples comparison.
