First Night, No Body Battery

My Index Sleep Monitor arrived yesterday and I got it all set up. At bedtime, I put on the Index Sleep and placed my fenix 6X Sapphire on the charger. This morning I woke up and went to take a look in Garmin Connect and saw I didn’t get any body battery metrics. The timeline actually shows that I was active all night. Everything else (sleep, pulse ox, heart rate) seems to have registered properly.

Is there a bug somewhere, or did I do something wrong?

It looks like I’m still running 3.26, I haven’t been prompted for any updates.

  • I cannot even update the Index Sleep. It still shows software 3.23. According to the user's manual, it should update automatically after or while synching. This does not happen here and I cannot even get Garmin Express to find the Index. It is really annoying and I am seriously considering sending it back as it is useless at the moment (same issues with body batter, etc.)

  • I had this issue for a few days.  It was updating the first time I synced, but never completed.  Then it remained on 3.23 for 2-3 days, I woke up one morning and it was gone from Garmin Connect (!?!) and upon setting it up again the update started and successfully installed 3.60.  So, you could try to remove / reset and re-setup -- that might trigger it to update.  That said, the update doesn't fix the Body Battery issue discussed in this thread.

  • ...same here, no body battery data. Fenix 6X.

  • ...same issue here with my Fenix 6X.

If it really is supposed to be a "learning" thing then please say so in the manual how long it'll approximately take.

  • ....exactly same here. I dont think the "overwriting" thing is the problem (or maybe is another issue) here because of what you and I are experiencing. The sleep index monitor just doesn't generate or calculate the body battery metric.

  • I'm still seeing this behavior after updating to 3.70. I tested immediately after the update by removing my watch and putting on the sleep band, and body battery immediately stopped being recorded. Life heart rate also quit displaying in the app.

When I removed the sleep monitor after a few minutes and put the watch back on, the HR and stress data for that period synced to the app, but the body battery graph retained the gap where I had been wearing the sleep monitor and not the watch.

  • v3.70 doesn't change anything

  • It is really strange because it records all the needed data for body battery (stress, HRV, sleep, etc.). It just does not generate a body battery number and graph.

  • Hello!

We have made improvements to this interaction in the 12.70 software update for users who have fenix 8 Series, Forerunner 570/970, Vivoactive 6, and Venu X1.

Users who have an older device may need to use the following workaround to eliminate the possibility of false on-wrist detection by their paired wearable.

    1. Ensure Garmin Connect mobile app is open and running on the phone.
    2. Verify the watch synced in the last 5 minutes.  You may need to go to More > Garmin Devices > Device Name to manually sync.
    3. Put on Index Sleep Monitor and verify that it vibrates indicating it has connected and is recording heart rate.
    4. Remove watch from their wrist and power off.
    5. Go to sleep.
    6. Upon waking, remove ISM and turn it inside out, OHR facing up.
    7. Verify that the Index Sleep Monitor is syncing to the Garmin Connect mobile app.
    8. Power on watch and put on wrist.
    9. Verify that watch syncs.  The 2 devices may need to sync multiple times for a full True Up of all data.

If you experience this issue after updating your watch to 12.70 please create a new thread.
