S2 Body Fat not accurate

  • Consent to be added to an internal case - yes, I consent
  • Consent to access your Garmin Connect account (if needed) -  yes, I consent
  • What device/test are you comparing your Index readings to - Tanita Inner Ccan
  • What does your Index S2 display vs what does your reference device display -  S2 Fat = 17.1 Tanita =10.6
  • What is your activity class set to, and is this appropriate for your activity level - 8 - Yes
  • I know we won't get any answer on this, but I would really like to know if they are planning to release a new Smart Scale instead. I currently do not own any, and was thinking of getting Garmin's S2, but I am not not sure what are their plans - fixing the S2 or releasing a 'S3' soon rather.

  • , your response to Garmin-Kevin is cute--look, see how old this thread is. Garmin-Kevin has been telling users that it's going to be fixed "soon" for years; don't fall for the nonsense.

  •  I know. I am always optimistic. But Kevin can't possibly fix this. He has made an effort to respond and has been able to see/hear that work is still being done. It is urgent, but also the necessary caution because I think many of them have been sold. And while you don't often buy a scale in your life, Garmin also knows that an ecosystem is only as strong as its weakest link. After all, if a customer, if only for 1 product, is really done with it, then they leave the entire ecosystem. In my case, for example, also my 1 - 2 yearly upgrade to the latest Forerunner. I'm already running on power alone with a Stryd and a FR955. I like that but can switch more easily because I only use power. Selling a bad product like the S2 Smart Scale makes it very easy for me to consider ;-). So I hope for the best for all of us.

  • To be fair, Garmin watches are probably stil the best on market for fitness / activity tracking. I know Apple is doing something with Ultra, but that is still a smartwatch for me as far as I read reviews. It will probably be compelling for Apple users, but that's it. I am an Android user with Pixel phone which I love. However, Pixel Watch is really bad. Still, that won't make me sell my Pixel Phone and Pixel Buds Pro (which both are awesome) and go for Apple or Samsung or w/e. I am, however, selling my Pixel Watch in case anyone is interested :P

I do agree with you that it is amazing when whole ecosystem is great - so I hope they do fix the Smart Scale or offer a new product instead, if it is not fixable by software updates.

  • , totally agree with the watches--hardy, do what they're supposed to, and I'll be getting another one in a few years. TBH, my watch is what "convinced" me to get the scale; thankfully, the bad scale hasn't convinced me to get rid of the watch! :D

  • I am completely the same as you. But perhaps a bit 'dumber' as my Epix2 convinced me to purchase S2 even after reading this Thread. :D I doubt there will be S3 anytime soon unfortunately, so I can only hope they can fix it with Software update in near future.

  • , I'm half way dumb :P I did search for reviews, but never thought to look here, first. The Wire Cutter reported huge discrepancies in measurement, and one other review also mentioned them--but the latter review "asked Garmin about it," and "Garmin said" that the differences in measurement were because the S2 had "more advanced" algorithms, hence the difference :P I'm using my return money to kickstart this scale...probably won't be worse: bodypedia-most-powerful.kckb.st/1276cbf7

  • Thanks for sharing this Kickstarter, will look into it. Did your research reveal it should be good?
The only downside I think will be that it won't automaticlly upload to Garmin Connect, so we will have to do it somehow manually.

  • , I've had a scale for LIDL, here in Europe, that I got for 15euro that does BF, and was entering everything by hand; I was like, "Oh boy, won't have to do that anymore with the S2!". But here we are, it's worse than what I had, and to use it properly, I had to hack my dates anyway :D So I don't know that this scale is going to be the best or not, but it seems that it's multiple scanning points increase the odds of improved accuracy. And...yeah, I'll have to enter things by hand, but as mentioned above, I already have to manually change info to use the S2, so be it. Finally--this scale is slightly cheaper than the S2 anyway, so I come out on top after my return!

  • But how do you input all the Body Compisiton measurements from other Scales into Garmin Connect? I can only see option to add 'Weight' and that's it, no other Body Composition things.
