Hi I’ve updated my edge 830 and it’s turning off and on mid ride. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Is there a fix?

All,
I'm currently waiting on a reply to see what information I will need from you. Once I hear back, I will update this thread.
Please reply back with a Yes if I can email you directly.
I am facing the same now as well. My Garmin is restarting on almost every ride. Anyone found a solution to it?
You can email me directly, yes
Had no more reboots and only a few sensor reconnects (may have be due to standby mode of the sensors).
My Edge seems healthy again!
Just to double check: have you ridden with the same set of sensors? None of the previous one was míssing from your setup during last ride?
And after the setup from the scratch did you pair these sme sensors using the same protocol as in the previous case? I mean BT in all those cases where you had selected BT earlier, and ANT+ in all those cases wher you had opted for it earlier?
Additional inquiry if you let me make it: do you use a powermeter, too?
I had one change due to loss of my Magene S3+ cadence sensor (replaced by MooFit CS9). Sensors I have paired:
- Magene S3+ as speed sensor
- MooFit CS9 as cadence
- Fenix 6x as heart rate
all paired via ANT+. No powermeter connected.
Despite of having quite a lot of reconnects of the sensors, main problem were those reboots and those are gone. I also installed the apps from IQ I had before as well (Komoot, Gimporter, Charge Monitor).
Did 5 or 6 rides - no issues.
Edge 830 turns on and off while driving, and no training effect. After 3.5 hours of driving, the Edge turned on 2 times. I did not lose activity, but the training effect is 1 LOL.
I updated to the current version, 9.75 and experienced auto reboot, and dropped sensors, HR and Radar. Back to stable 7.10 again. Garmin how can you not get this right?
Edit three days later: Back to 7.1. All is again right with the world. No sensor or power mtr dropouts or reboots on two long rides. I'll note that I only use Ant+ for sensors. My only Bluetooth connection is the phone. I have wifi disabled so The Edge can't easily auto update the software.
I’ve got the same happen to me the last few weeks. 830 restarts mid ride, it takes a while before it wakes up again, registers a 640 FTP. I too run a SRAM AXS Force group with a Quark powermeter and a Varia. I think it started after I updated my 830 a few weeks back. Very annoying.
Yes please contact me and look into my connect, and I live in Belgium.
Best, Kurt
My Garmin edge 830 did this for years. Garmin answer was reboot and reinstall the software. The device kept doing it no matter what configurations and changes I made. This lasted for years. I don’t think Garmin can tell from their error logs what is causing these problems. Eventually I gave up and decided to buy an edge 840 after getting nowhere with Garmin support. I think the issue with the 830 is a design flaw as it seems to be unsolvable. I’ve since relegated the 830 to the drawer. The 840 has rebooted mid ride twice, however that was when it was using beta firmware. It seems to be stable for now
Connect your 830 to your PC and format the Garmin volume/mount with FAT32 filesystem (quickformat is sufficient). This will erase everything from your Edge (not the firmware!!). Reboot and reinstall eveything with Garmin Express.
I did so after several reboot while following routes - it never happened again.
Hi Greg, thats a pity. They should give us an option to downgrade to the previous firmware since I didn't have a single problem with the exact same setup until the upgrade. I didn't feel the need to buy an 840 spending €450 to fix an issue I didn't cause. Anyway, thanks for yr reply and I hope that 840 doesn't act the same after the 850 becomes available.
Hey Tom, I'll try that when I find the time for it. Did you loose any data during this proces?
