When does Garmin solve the multiple devices HR/Intensity minutes problem?

There are reports of dozens of people with the same problem since years (Garmin Forum, Reddit, etc.).

Most have a watch and a edge and don't want to wear the watch while riding. Since years this causes problems as in this case heart rate and with it, intensity minutes, are not calculated properly in connect even the activity was recorded flawlessly on the edge with a HR monitor.

People tried everything, shut off the watch or watch/edge connections or tried different syncing methods. Sometimes it works, sometimes partly and often not.

I can not believe that a company like Garmin is not able or willing to solve this problem.

  • You have to buy a Garmin heart rate sensor and a recent Edge bike computer.

So in my case the combo: Edge 540, Forerunner 255 and HRM Pro+  works perfectly. Doesnt matter if I wear the watch or no.

Before with my Edge 530 that was not the case. Also the Combo Edge 540 plus 3rd party heart rate sensor does not work regarding intensity minutes.

  • This Is no solution as Garmin heart rate sensor straps begin to stink nasty after 2-3 activities for a lot of peoples (individual sweat composition). I tried 2x HRM Dual and 1x Pro+. This is also an existing problem which garmin doesent solve since years.

Edge 530 does not support activity minutes, this is known. I have an Edge 540.

HRM Pro+ stores the heart rate also on the strap, not (only) on the device. Therefore it works for you. Same if I would wear the watch while recoring with the Edge + 3rd party hrm, but this is what a lot of cyclists not want.

3rd party straps work with the watch for HR and intensity minutes without problems. Therefore it should not be a problem on the edge 540 + 3rd party hrm as I have an activity with my heart rate recorded properly which is visible as a continuous heart rate with realistic values for the whole activity.

I found a solution which shows that this is only a synchronisation priority problem by garmin.

I have to cut of the watch from connect (turn device or wifi and bluetooth off) while not wearing it.
Cut of the Edge from connect/phone (turn of wifi and bluetooth). Record Edge activity with 3rd party HRM. After stoping the activity, syncing with wifi.

In this case, everything is as it should be, but its inconvenient. I have activity minutes AND all day heart rate in connect (which should not be possible according garmin https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=dLag82HPPk0l4T2tRELSgA ).

As I said, its only a Watch-Connect-Edge synchronisation priority problem which Garmin doesen't solve.
