Navigation and roundabout

When navigating the instructions for roundabouts are driving me mad. I am in the uk so every prompt tells me to turn left as we go left round the roundabouts.. It’s only when I get close to the roundabout I can actually see on the map what exit to take.

Please fix this.

  • I'm going to test my 530 on saturday (weather permitting) using the OSM maps from the site suggested. There will be a few roundabouts, many of which i have ridden around before with issues using  530 /garmin maps. There are numerous examples on the 530 forum of this issue (roundabout rather than zoom), though, and my reading is that it is the garmin maps file that is poor, rather than the unit or the underlying OSM data.

  • Alright then it looks like I’ve also been suffering from the super zooming bug then as I now have correct text but misleading map. I’m not sure if I really needed the map change but that’s easy to reverse. I’m surprised that if the zoom was so much the width of the road wasn’t much wider. I’ve turned off the “auto zoom” for next time. Does this actually fix it? I’ve already made the normal map screen one click down from my navigation data screen so I can click to see the map. My example (activity / route vs edge screen)

I had a separate issue where the init did actually show me a roundabout but told me to do the first exit, which would have been the M25 slip road (my route was the second exit).

  • Where was the issue with the roundabout on the M25?  Whenever I have experienced the wrong roundabout exit number being shown it is down to an issue with the underlying map data - there is no gap between one of the entry and exit roads making that exit road not be counted.

  • Ha!! That's exactly the same roundabout that I've had problems with.  I don't live in the area but when I was visiting friends in H. Barnett I used the 530 to navigate me around a course I was unfamiliar with.

I'll take another look at the OSM data but I'm pretty sure I checked this out last time I had the problem and it was all okay.

Just to confirm, was that with the Garmin Cycle Map?

    KR, Dave.

  • Of all the roundabouts in the UK !! This time was not with garmin cycle maps, it was the OSM maps from the .nl site earlier posted. I did have the same issue with garmin cycle maps having been there only a week before (unit display was exactly as per above photo). If you get your head around the super zoom, i guess it does make some sense, albiet a useless map

  • Junction 22 of M25. Above is the activity (from north to south then east) then google maps.  The text said take first exit onto (correct road name), so it just ignored the M25 slip road. I cant zoom in enough on the .nl site to see if an error there.

  • Does turning off the "auto zoom" in the navigation settings help this issue at all ? I've done it to try, but haven't tested yet.

  • I tried this yesterday and it still kept zooming in. I've set the zoom level to about 20% but everytime you reach a turn it still zooms super close to the junction/roundabout. I can live with this machine if that zooming feature can be completely disabled. Anyone know if we can do that?

  • I used Menu\Settings\Activity Profiles\[profile]\Navigation\Map\Auto Zoom and turned it off. But i haven't tested it yet.

Where is the manual zoom % setting please?

  • The OSM map data is fine for J22 of the M25.  I get the correct roundabout exit numbers in Basecamp with up to date maps. I tried the routing on my 830 (same up to date maps) and I get the same error as you had .  As long as the road name/number is correct at least you can find the correct exit.
