Navigation and roundabout

When navigating the instructions for roundabouts are driving me mad. I am in the uk so every prompt tells me to turn left as we go left round the roundabouts.. It’s only when I get close to the roundabout I can actually see on the map what exit to take.

Please fix this.

  • I agree, this is really annoying me. Today I ended up on a dual carriageway because of this and then had a horrible time trying to get back on track. Please fix!

  • This is due to the Garmin maps not the Edge device.  The roundabouts are not marked as roundabouts so you get told to turn left onto the ring then turn right to go round it etc.  Third party maps have roundabouts correctly marked so the navigation prompts will tell you which exit to take.

The fix is to use third party maps (or create your own maps) and not use the Garmin maps.

  • Sorry I disagree the fix is for garmin to sort out the maps that we have paid for.

  • Yes Garmin should fix the maps but at least there is a perfectly decent, easy, & free work around. You may even prefer different maps over the Garmin ones.

  • I'm sorry, I didn't buy a Garmin for me to install 3rd party maps. Please fix the bug.

Is it in the pipeline? If not, I'm gonna demand a refund. Every single ride I'm going off track because the navigation is poor. Yesterday, my ride didn't even tell me I was supposed to be taking a right hand turn! Absolutely poor for a product in the hundreds of pounds price point.

  • You paid for the device.  It works perfectly.  The maps are a free bonus.  You didn't used to get maps with mapping Edge units and then you either had to buy some off Garmin or use third party ones or make your own.

I have no idea if a fix is in the pipeline.  Ask Garmin.  I agree that it is annoying but at least there are freely available third party maps that don't have the issue.  I create my own maps as I have a colour scheme I prefer that isn't available elsewhere.  You can't do that with any other mapping bike computer.  It is good to have that option

If you ever want to use maps on your Edge 530 in a different region you would have to use third party maps or buy some Garmin ones.

  • its not a free bonus it is a huge part  of the product they sell and advertise as such. if you bought the edge and the buttons didint work you would send it back.. Maps was THE reason i upgraded from my trusty 520 and it needs to be fixed

  • Well I hope you have raised the issue with Garmin then. The more people that complain about an issue the more likely it is to get fixed.

For now just use third party maps. I know you don't want to but they will fix the issue until Garmin sort theirs out.

  • This analogy is totally wrong because sometimes, correct directions will be given at the same roundabout they're not given on other times. Please don't just act like your opinion is the actual truth.

  • Not in my experience.  Other people may have different experiences.  Nevertheless roundabouts are not correctly tagged in Garmin maps I have looked at.  This can be seen by using the maps in Garmin's Basecamp software.  That doesn't give correct roundabout navigation either with Garmin's cycle maps but does navigate correctly around roundabouts with the maps on my Garmin car sat nav and third party Garmin compatible maps.  What should happen at roundabouts is that the device will tell you the number of the exit to take.

If you have any navigation issues complain to Garmin.  I have about their maps and roundabouts.
