Crashes on 13.13 - Specific Info Request

Hello all, we understand there are many members of the community here who are seeing crashes/freezes/reboots during activities after installing the latest update. This is being investigated internally, but we wanted to request some help from the community to aid that search. 

We ask that responses be in the below format only to help us speed up the effort to look into this. If you have thoughts to share in general, please use the existing threads as we may delete posts that are not in the below format to keep this thread cleaner. 

For users who are willing to offer information to help us look into crashes on 13.13, please respond in the below format with all requested information. 

  • Do we have your permission to email you outside of the forums? (required to ask before we can do so)
  • Do we have your permission to view your Garmin Connect account if needed? 
    • If so, can you please share dates where these errors have occurred if you saved and uploaded these activities
  • What were you doing when the freeze/crash/reboot occurred? 
  • Were you navigating a course? 
    • If so, was this course a .GPX, .FIT, or .TCX file? 
    • What was the source of this course file? (sharing public links to this file is a great help if possible)
  • What map(s) do you have installed/enabled? 
    • If this is a 3rd party map, please share information including website source, version number, regional coverage you are using.

    3. Screen freezes, pressed the upper left button. Device restart, freezes nearly instantly again. Tried 5x times gave up and used my Edge 1030 which works fine with the exact same course and map.

    4. I create a course, but I am not navigating. I put "always display" on and follow the line.

    5. The course is in FIT format it has been created on Ride with GPS.

    6. I have one map covering the east of China from BBBike extracts OpenStreetMap (OSM, Garmin, Shapefile etc.)

    7. As soon as I removed the map the Edge 1050 works fine. It did not have this issue before SW 13.13 and my Edge 1030 does not have a problem either.

    My unit froze after about three miles of riding.  I was not touching anything.  This time I did not bother rebooting my device on the ride.

    I was not following a course.

    I was using a custom map of the midwestern U. S. I made from OpenStreetMap.

    Yes access to my Garmin connect account.

    Device rebooted today as I just saved the morning ride.

    Ride was saved. 

    First time device has rebooted being on 13.13

    Hi,

    the problem persists.
    After about 6 km, the device freezes completely.
    Restarting with the power button is necessary.
    A thick blue line appears on the map for a route even though navigation isn't started.
    All in all, very unpleasant. Hopefully, a solution will be found soon.

    For me, it froze mid-ride. I stopped it, restarted it, and it continued running, but I lost part of the route (until I realized it was frozen).
    When I got home, I connected it to my computer, deleted all the maps I didn't need, leaving the European ones behind, and deactivated a third-party map I had with me (which had worked fine so far).
    I deleted all the activities saved on the GPS.
    I've been on it for a few rides since then, and it's working perfectly now.

    Garmin needs to act quickly now.

    Of course, I only have one map active (Topo). But that doesn't help. Also, I am not a fan of homemade solutions.
    I also find it very surprising that I can't make a backup. It's possible with my smartwatch (Epix).

    Garmin edge 1050.  13.13.  Running nothing special or third party anything.  Freezes about twice per ride.  Today on a 3.5hr ride, it froze 3 times.  Can't figure out why.  Not associated with any action on my part.  Completely random.

    i can confirm that there were no freezes while using 13.12 with openMTBmaps. The issue came up immediately after updating to 13.13.

    Same problem here. Freeze during any activity with navigation or not, does not care. I always navigate with Komoot. In the last ride I had a freeze, restart with power button and 5 minutes after a complete crash with restart. This situation is absolutley inacceptabel.

    I have received an update from Garmin Australia that they are replacing my unit, What does that mean now for users? What is really interesting is the unit I had (6 months old) had 4 country maps and MENA preloaded, the new unit they are sending me shows no maps?
