Garmin Edge 1040 25.25 & Varia RTL515: no visual notifications

After updating to 25.25, the usual Varia visuals on Edge screen are not shown, there's not "red/green shading" on the corners of the display

(I checked sensor details configuration and they are turned on) and the circles representing the cars are displayed in white, making them "invisible" unless they're overlapping with some darker area, like a black number on the screen. The sound notification is working fine. It's like Edge is picking the wrong colors to draw the alerts on the screen.

Anyone else experiencing that? Any hints on how I could fix this without factory reseting the device?

  • I understand your concerns and I'm giving you as many details as I have for an immediate resolution.

It appears a very small number of Edge x40 devices are experiencing this error following an update, and we have not confirmed how these devices end up in this state.

I have not yet confirmed with any users if the radar graphics are restored after installing the current beta, but we expect the error to be resolved when any update is installed. If willing to test, enrolling in and installing the latest beta will be the quickest way to restore the radar graphics.

I will keep this thread posted with any new info or resolutions as soon as possible.

  • I understand that, and I also understand that bugs will eventually make to production in any software industry. But when bugs impact critical safety features like this one they should be addressed with higher priority.

As I shared with you on the private email exchange, despite all the additional useful metrics that garmin provides me with and despite the fact I use a garmin watch for tracking other activities. After facing so many random issues with Edge, this last instance and the lack of a resolution got it will most likely make me go back to the brand I used to use before (I literally had zero issues with them in many years).

The tentative fix by installing the beta firmware is a very unreasonable guidance, IMO. Even stable firmware updates will very frequently introduce bugs like random reboots, corrupted files, UI lag, syncing issues, etc. the beta branch is just unusable for anyone depending on their devices for daily training. I tried it once and regretted it very much.

again, Garmin feature set is amazing, but being dependable is way more important than being able to see people in the same group ride on my map. When time comes for me to upgrade my device or if money allows for an early upgrade, I’m going back to what I used to use before. Less features but 100% reliable.
