Bug: Losing all sensor connections

Today, i became the new Garmin Edge1040,

so I configured it, properly. Connect all my sensors (HRMpro, Quarq Powermeter, Garmin Speedsensor2 ) and started to do a nice hilly ride..

but after  a few meters, he lost all connections. Sometimes during the entirely ride, he find them again, for a few seconds.

Parallel to the edge 1040 I used the new Forerunner to wrote the sensordata. It works without Problems.

Sensor connections to the Forerunner 955 Ant+, to the Edge Bluetooth.

Firmware 12.11 it looks it‘s a early early beta.

Very sad experience, to play the beta tester for such a device…

  • we've pretty much come to that conclusion now

  • Same here. All sensors gone after a minute of riding. I use the windfield data field

    software version 12.11

  • Scott from WindField again.  My code monkeys (actually me and the cat) have been hard at work and have just submitted a 1040 only version of the app for review and approval by Garmin.  It's the same WindField you know and love, but without using any Sensors.  So we will see how that works.  I'll post again when/if it gets approval.  That usually takes a few days.

  • I'm having the same issues.  They need to get this fixed quickly or the 1040 is going back to the store.  Hopefully we can get an update very soon

  • Garmin employees have been active in the 1040 section of these forums. It would be good to see a comment or acknowledgment in this thread, given its the most major bug in the unit and causing the most noise.

please could someone from garmin support comment?

  • I can tell you that Garmin support contacted me about my support case Monday asking for activities that show the issue and a copy of my garmin folder from the device.  The garmin folder was too large to send, even taking out the img files, but I was able to provide two activities that show the issue clearly.  The only difference between the two activities was the use of a connectIQ field (SPH Graph) on one of the data screens.  I used one sensor just to simplify the experiment.

This is a 20 minute session recording heart rate without the connectIQ app on the data page.  HR connection was pretty reliable.

This is the same sensor recorded minutes earlier but with a connectIQ app on the data page.  You can see the sensor drops after a minute or two and reconnects briefly every 5 minutes or so.

  • I'll add to that it's a bit disappointing to buy a new device but instead of using it, I'm riding with my 1030 and the ConnectIQ apps I'm used to.  Although I could use the 1040 without any apps, it feels like a step backwards.  SPH Graph is a convenience I would rather not forgo.

  • I have the same problem. I bought the 1040 because the battery lasts longer than my older 1030. So I used it for the first time on this long ride I had planned for some time (425 km). I was disappointed by the lack of sensor data I really needed during the ride.

But then I encountered an additional problem. After 135km during a break I decided to use the 1030, which I luckily brought with me along on the ride, so that I can monitor my sensor data during the rest of the ride.

I figured to leave the 1040 on since the ride was already registered on it from the start. And I had planned to use the screen lock and put it in my back pocket for the rest of the ride. To my shock and anger I saw that the first 135km part of my ride had disappeared and the 1040 was ready to start a new ride. I did neither save nor delete the ride 'accidentally'. I thought I lost that part of the ride for ever. But at the end of the ride when I saved the second part of the registered ride I saw that the first part was saved on the 1040 (but not send automatically to Strava). But now my new record longest ride was not registered by Strava. Thanks Garmin!! Rage

So now I am wondering if the start of my old Garmin Edge 1030 caused the Garmin Connect App on my iPhone to instruct the new Garmin Edge 1040 to stop its current ride. A hidden feature on the Connect App perhaps? Thinking
