any insight on maybe a new 1040 or whatever release date?

Anybody know anything on when a new Flagship Edge is coming out?

  • Reading the review by DCR i see that is a big disappoint.

The only new feature is the solar, the rest, just minor details from 1030+.

I don't think it is worth the upgrade.

  • Hi Ionut,

I agree with you. I have just posted my comments on DCR. The most abysmal non-upgrade is the screen. Basically the same as my 1000, unbelievable. They have been playing around with Solar to the detriment of real GPS device requirements, good screen-size and resolution.

I will upgrade as at least the Navigation options are an improvement to my 1000, but as you not much more in this area than the 1030+.

  • I disagree. It seems the new gps chip is bang on. It also seems navigation is great.  I agree that I wanted more like a Wahoo phone setup. The only thing I really wanted was sending routes from the phone.  I will upgrade to the 1040 non solar as I sold both my 1030 early last year and 130 plus earlier this year.

Also it will pull all my screens from when I had the 1030 so phone setup is not really an issue

  • Love the idea of the solar, but in the UK I'm guessing it's probably not worth the extra, so........regular 1040 ordered! Due on Friday.

  • Friday?  I was looking on the Garmin website and it says available to ship in 4-8 weeks!!!

  • In Canada we cannot even order yet.

  • I just ordered mine on a Dutch webshop, already packed and will be delivered tomorrow. So you may want to check local availability...

I don't know, it looks pretty good to me! Then again, I only own the Edge 1000, and have had it for coming up on 8 years (with a few replacements along the way lol) so I am definitely due for a refresh! in fairness to you 1030 and 1030+ owners, I am not as familiar with the features that your units have versus the 1040.

By the way, on a side note, this is precisely why I decided to wait, rather than upgrade a few years back to the 1030. I purchased the Edge 1000 a month or two after it launched in early Summer 2014. The 1030 came out 2017, three years later. By the time I was thinking upgrade, it was already 2020, and I was thinking I would be damned if I bought into the current Garmin so late in its life cycle.

Watching DRRainmaker's review, I am quite impressed! I also think that the cool factor of the Solar while being a gimmick is...well, cool. It is, however, nothing I would pay an extra $150.00 for. I mean...hahaha 100 hours of battery life in the stock unit? The features look really nice, too, and I love the increased font size, and many of the other features DCRainmaker spoke about. If I ever decide to ride for 100 hours straight, in a blackout, while shoveling coal into my potbelly stove and sending messages to my family via telegraph, and paying my bills with the Pony Express, I'm sure I will regret not buying the Solar.

Now I am soooooo glad I waited. Anyway, there seems to be reports of shortages. No worries. I spent 5 months trolling Twitter "drop dates" trying to buy my PS5 Disc version before finally scoring one off Sony Direct thanks to guys like Wario64 posting restocks minutes before they happen. lol I can wait a few months if need be until any supply/demand issues are over.

  • Me too....but then checked Wiggle and I could have had it delivered tomorrow....but I'm not at home then, so can wait until Friday.
