any insight on maybe a new 1040 or whatever release date?

Anybody know anything on when a new Flagship Edge is coming out?

  • :) this is the only "accessory" that I don't have

But otherwise it was stable, then they f...ed up also this one , I remember that when I did everesting , they had some issue with elevation calculation ,and then I had to ride hundred meters

  • Hi, I find this site useful for any release dates. Its not anything confirmed just rumoured potential dates

    www.fitness-tracker-test.info/.../

  • Interesting that it lists solar options.  I was just thinking that solar would make sense on the Edge series as I was positioning my Instinct Solar in the window of my hotel room to charge it since I forgot to pack my charging cable. Smiley

  • I like the idea of the new 1040 charging off of Solar. Not sure how long it would keep it topped up for but great for the environment.

  • Using solar won't have any impact in the environment.

The point of solar is to extend the battery life.

  • It will, but will likely be a negative impact (as you probably know). The energy to create solar cells is higher than they'll recover on a few hours' bike ride here and there. To break even on energy, they need to be left in the sun all day, every day, for 1-3 years, and used to power additional devices.

And that's before even counting the materials used in the cell.

I'm a regular all-day rider, but I'm never out for more than 10 hours, so all the battery needs to do for me is to manage that. If I'm on a multi-day ride I have a charger for the phone anyway.

  • Why do you want that? it's going to be more expensive, take up place for real GPS/Computer functions such as navigation. Saying nothing of development effort and support. The reputed battery life is going to be 15hrs plus, what percentage of users need more than that? It's a gimmick, Garmin needs to invest in real GPS functionality that really works, e.g.

    - stop the "Route calculations errors" that occur continuously.

    - stop the navigation getting "confused" when you cross your route somewhere and sending you round in circles.

    - give more route options when navigating - "get me back, on my route, to the start with no detours"

    - get the the bloody maps up-to-date and above all cycle maps not car maps. All bike paths & greenways in all areas  US/EU/Asia should be selectable.

    - etc. etc.

If you go out in the outback for more than couple of days, take a battery-pack charger, cheaper and better.

User  below is also correct in his assessment of the env. considerations. If all Garmin users had the solar option it would make absolutely zero difference to the env. especially as you would still be charging via cable.

Garmin already spends too much time on useless features. I pay that amount of money for an excellent GPS/Navi device and I am not getting it!

  • MikeF-Swiss -

    My sentiments exactly!!!

And my latest issue is my Varia Radar unit saying it's disconnected only to reconnect shortly thereafter (repeat,repeat............)!

I sent the error files to Garmin Support on Friday. Hope they respond!!!

  • All this, plus a high contrast screen that looks great on daylight and more than decent in the night, without halo.

I had got the 1030 and remember great time navigating in bike trip. Destroyed it in accident and got 830 then the navigation goes nut :(

  • Getting sick of waiting for a new edge.  Getting ready to jump wo another eco system.  We are a total garmin family.... But might be time to change.
