I had a karoo hammerhead v1, and delighted. The team and the support of your employees are wonderful. I sold it because it was too big and heavy, but the mapping and navigation performance much better than Garmin

Exactly! For multiple days of the grid or even 24hours ride a phone does not work at all

it does not work if the temperature is high or low, or if you need it actually for the calls (or in situation that you actually need it)

I wait for the next generation of Edge.

I have a 820 witch is a real nightmare regarding navigation.

The only thing I might get, a 1040(?) is that I want a better battery life. 820 is lasting a few hours at best (5-7 maximum) or even less with screen on and few sensors. I must have an external battery always to finish long rides.

Second, the processing power is just .... none, almost.

The map calculation takes forever and recalculation of the route tens of minutes.

So I want to wait for the next generation and I will skip the 1030+.

I am not sure if they will change the cpu's again. they just switched to a new one with 1030+. My personal opinion is that they will improve the performance a bit, update screen quality and call it a day. Changing CPU might involve a bigger battery and better heat dissipation which means bulkier like phones.

Just like with all Garmin devices, better wait half a year to have the most serious bugs solved. I'm really impressed with the 1030 plus. It may have it's quirks but a 1040 is not going to solve them. Probably. I got a great deal for 429 euros. 1040 will be probably 700...
