Yes.  A 150€ Android phone does 1 milion things more than a 500€ garmin edge. GPS computer as we know are absolutely obsoleted. 

I don't believe that Garmin will employ more capable people to create 1040s.

Then just use a mobile phone when this solution works for you. Bike computer must be rugged, with easy to use interface, with sun readable display and battery needs to least for many hours. Unfortunately there is no mobile phone that can met these.  Btw, Wahoo computers are powered by Android, are these obsolete as well?

Mobile is not suitable as a replacement for cyclocomputer. Too big, low battery life, just a solution for cycling amateurs who don't have the money for a better solution or ride a bike just to the pub and back.

A company like Hammerhead has managed to make a cycocomputer that outperforms Garmin in a lot of ways. If a giant like Xiaomi made one, it would end up living in the 90s

Cell phone technology is changing rapidly. Battery life has vastly improved along with screens.

My experience with the Hammerhead company was very negative and no matter what kind of product they produce, I would never want to deal with them again. Computer is only as good as the company behind it.
