I know this is a really old post, but this happened today on my wife's Vivoactive 4. Watch recorded the all the metrics correctly, but Garmin Connect shorted her over half a mile and consistently, recalculated the pace to the shorter distance.
A couple of days ago I ran a short interval training - 12x {1min + 2min recovery}. The paces were roughly 3:15 for the intervals and 4:45 for the recovery. I look at the "Lap pace" metric (average pace for the current lap).

Altitude can be calculated using GPS or the barometric pressure. In the latter case, the measurements are accurate only for a short time after calibration, as the weather changes the barometric pressure all the time.
I've tried a bike and a run with my VA3 and it appears to be working and acquires the GPS however my activities show 0.00 for the distance. When I try to save the activity it goes into a "saving" loop for at least 30 minutes and then nothing happens…
The weekly running distance display (below the red man) is not reset at the start of the week. So far the problem can only be solved by switching the start of the week to Sunday for a short time each week and then back to Monday again. The problem already…

Any Garmin I have used has worked sort of in downtown major cities (Boston , Minneapolis, Chicago, Paris, London) ... yes it might put me on the wrong side of street on the map, or have hickups in pace or location... but all in all for Marathons and training…
