A MARQ 3 with a MIP display may sound dumb to some, actually if someone had suggested to replace the gorgeous AMOLED screen in my MARQ 2 a few years ago, I would probably have thought the same. But after having used the MARQ 2 for a long time now, I must admit I miss the MIP display, for a very simple reason: It is always on, the AMOLED screen isn't. I hate having to flick my wrist all the time in order to activate the watch.
And yes, MIP doesn't look as brilliant as the AMOLED, lower resolution, no true blacks at night... But if I'm honest I'm happy to go with these downsides. If you can really speak about downsides, you get a true AOD screen that always works, regardless of any wrist rotations. I'd gladly choose a lower resolution MIP screen over the "AMOLED wrist flicking problem."
Apart from the superior battery life the MIP display outclasses AMOLED by miles, from a functionality aspect. I mean I have it so many times that the damn gesture doesn't work and does NOT wake my watch up. Yesterday I was running to the bus and wanted to check how much time I had left. Despite multiple aggressive flick attempts from me, I was looking at a frozen dimmed screen. Scenarios like these kinda defeat the purpose of wearing the watch. The AMOLED screen isn't reliable. Wearing sun glasses in the summer and want to take a look on your watch without arm gymnastics? No chance. Not having to flick your wrist all the time, and just watching the seconds hand tick, while just sitting somewhere without a gesture is a huge factor.
Personally I will not buy a new MARQ watch until the screen technology has matured. I'm not sure if the mini-/ micro LED tech is there yet for a potential MARQ 3. If not, why not offer a MARQ 3 MIP edition for outdoor enthusiasts?
Please don't get me wrong, I do not care about the battery life at all, I just want to have a functional watch with a true AOD screen that I can enjoy without compromises. The MIP technology works reliably, and can offer exactly that. I didn't buy my MARQ just to look nice in the cafe, I want to use it without any limitations.
