fenix 8 hr sensor cracking

Good day,

I purchased a fenix 8 AMOLED 51mm in mid-July of this year (2025). This is my 4th garmin watch and I've never had issues before, however this time around I started noticing erratic HR readings and a rapidly declining battery during a half-marathon (battery usually lasts 20 days + but in this case it went from 100% to 25% in hours). I eventually took it off and discovered cracking in the HR sensor glass - 3 days after discovering this issue I noticed the glass cracked further and when I put it back on the HR sensor stopped working entirely - it's almost like there's some source of pressure on the watch, possibly from a manufacturing defect of some sort?

Either way - Garmin in my country states they don't repair products, they replace it at a discounted rate.

Is this a common occurance? Could it be because the watch is too big (it's 51mm) and knocking against my wrist bone? I'm a bit panicky since I get a generic automated response from garmin saying "user damage".

  • Is this a common occurance?

Definitely not. To me it looks like an impact too. Whether the impact was there before you bought the watch, or not, is hard to tell, but to be honest I am rather…

  • I said "Anything useful would be highly appreciated" in my post, so I'm curious as to why you decided to give me the most useless comment you could think of.

    You still did not…

  • Nope, that's still part of the resin, metal sustained nothing. You know why? Because there was no impact.

Resin?  What resin?  The HR sensor is glass, and the surround is stainless steel…
