Compatibility between the Fenix 8 Amoled 51mm and the Approach CT1 sensor pack?

Hi,

Will there be a compatibility between the Fenix 8 AMOLED 51mm and the Approach CT1 sensor pack?
Currently only Approach S70, S44 and S50 watches are compatible with this pack.
I wanted to buy his sensors, but without certainty, I try in vain to find an answer.

Best regards

  • I understand completely from the end of those wanting compatibility with the CT-1 sensors on wearable devices outside of the Approach watches that currently only pair with them.

It is worth noting that the Approach CT-1 (although a newer product) does not offer the multiple features for automated club tracking, scoring, shot distance averaging, nor the club performance stats that the Approach CT-10 exclusively offers...as the CT-1 sensors only allow club tracking, by assigning the shot prior to swinging with RF through the screen tap.

There are no other features outside of club tracking that are offered with Ct01, and all current Outdoor Wearable products (fenix 8, epix Gen 2, MARQ, Tactix, Enduro, Instinct 3) all feature club club tracking with the AutoShot and Club  Prompt features that can be enabled in the golf activity settings. The only difference with club prompt vs using the CT-1 sensors, is that the watch is prompting you to select the club type to assign to the shot after the shot has been taken...where the CT-1 sensors require you to squarely tap the sensor on the watch face prior to taking the shot to assign the club.

  • Hi Cody

There are two reasons that people may consider the CT1 over the CT10, at least from my perspective:

    1. Cost - The Ct1 is considerably cheaper for a full set

    2. Durability - There have been ongoing issues with durability on the CT10, hence the reason I won't invest in them considering how costly they are until Garmin come up with a more durable replacement.

  • Appreciate the details. You've convinced me to return the CT1s as well. Hopefully Garmin will soon release a 2nd gen CT10 in the CT1 form factor.

  • I am another long time Garmin customer and recently sold my S70 as I had understood the Fenix8 AMOLED had all the same features. As my Fenix is my default watch, I didn’t want the hassle of switching devices every time I found time for a round of golf.

I now regret selling the S70 for similar reasons. A recent software upgrade has resulted in shot tracker functionality either being completely lost or intermittent, and the virtual caddy is clueless after more than 10 rounds (recommending ridiculous clubs compared to the rather accurate S70 recommendations). On top, it’s a pity that the ‘mark putt’ and CT1 compatibility features remain unavailable on the premium Fenix 8 watches.

I remain patient and loyal to Garmin but really hope they rectify these issues soon and give their customers the functionality on their premium devices that are promised and deserved for the price point.

  • People want to love their devices and feel great about their purchases—especially when investing in a premium product like the Fenix 8, which many see as a flagship upgrade even over golf-specific watches.

Let’s be honest: how many people want—or can afford—to buy a separate watch for every sport? I use my Fenix 8 for everything: running, hockey, hiking, and golf. It’s my all-in-one device. My friends at the course were genuinely excited about the Fenix 8, and then when I mentioned the CT1 sensors, they almost wanted to buy it on the spot—but then we found out it's not supported. That was a real letdown.

I’ve also seen so many comments from people who bought the CT1 sensor, only to realize at home that it’s not compatible with their Fenix 8. It’s frustrating, especially because the tech is simple—it just skips a few manual button presses in the app. Customers end up feeling misled. To many, it comes across as an artificial upselling tactic, and that’s when trust and loyalty start to fade.

I really hope Garmin reconsiders. Adding CT1 compatibility to high-end multisport watches like the Fenix would go a long way to show that customer experience and long-term satisfaction still matter.

  • Agree wholeheartedly. Is there a hardware limitation of the Fenix 8?

  • Maybe you can shine some more light to this?
I understand that atm the functionality is the way it is, but how can users nudge the project leads and Garmin business heads to add this feature to their flagship.
I assume ct-1 sensors use the same physical tech as Garmin pay, it some sort of nearfield sensor reader and the ct-1 is a passive device like a credit card or smtg. Correct me if I'm wrong. I assume it is only the software that disallows this feature.

The argument is that Fenix is more expensive then Golf S series watches, and even Golf product reviewers report Fenix 8 as an upgrade to S70 for example. Many think this and buy the Fenix because of this. All the Golf stuff + better fitness stuff + all the latest new features. When it turns out it is not so, people feel misled and start to look elsewhere.

Word of mouth is a powerful thing on a golf course. If people see setup like Fenix 8 + ct1 , its like a walking commercial for the Fenix 8. Many are on a fence buying expensive watch like Fenix 8, and they will never buy a golf dedicated watch. 100 bucks for 16 ct-1 sensors, simple tech that lasts since its passive. I saw stars and sparks in people eyes when I told about this. (Back when I though this works). Had the same sparks in my eyes as well.

  • This addition would be great especially as I sold my S70 for the very reasons already mentioned in this thread. Simply no need to have two devices but I was really frustrated to find certain functionalities were missing. On top of CT1 sensor compatibility, I’m still waiting for the ‘mark putt’ feature to arrive on the Fenix 8. Fingers crossed tone1Pray tone1

  • Can you give me some context on the features you are wanting...that are missing without having the option of using the CT-1 sensors with the fenix 8?

I can certainly forward the feedback based on a better understanding of the use case you are advocating for based on some additional information of having the sensors compatible with the fenix 8.

  • Thanks for the follow up. In fact it’s two software and one hardware elements for the Fenix 8.

    1. Software upgrade to enable the new CT1 golf sensors to be compatible on the Fenix 8 and not exclusive to the Garmin golf watch range (as per several user feedbacks)

    2. The Garmin S70 also released an upgrade about 9 mths ago where you could press and hold a button to mark the location of your putt on the green. It seems the Fenix has most of the S70 features but not this one and it’s a pity when marking your shots for club stats that this functionality is not available as a software upgrade.

    3. Hardware: many people have remarked that Garmin should release options to buy different coloured microphone guards for the removable guards on the Fenis 8 47 and 51mm watches. Many customers care unhappy with the orange colour which limits the replacement watch strap colours that can be used. People would be willing to pay for replacement guard colours but despite several forums requesting this, there appears to be no appetite from Garmin to respond to loyal customer feedback.

    Many thanks
