Fenix 8 - calls

Hi everyone,

just get my hands on a new fenix 8 amoled 51. Very happy about it. unfortunally i can not make calls through the watch.

everything is working fine, i get notifications about mails, messages and calls too. But when i push the botton to answer the call nothing happen.

pratically on the watch it is shown that i answered but on the phone the call still go ringing.

same thing if i try to make a call from the watch. I get the connection with the phone, i’m able to select a contact and start the call. Everything seems to work fine but on the phone nothing happen.the call does not start.

thank you to anyone who can  help

marco

  • I have same situation. I'm pressing call answer button and nothing. Also initiating calls to contacts is doing nothing. What a junk.

  • do yuo think it can be a problem of old phone?

    Mine is 7 years old

  • Mine is also old, on Android 12, but Garmin did not informed me, the systems are not backwards compatibile. Best option would be to install connect App on some newer device and check if same behaviour.

  • yessss it's exactly how's shown in the video.

I don't have a newer mobile and either i don't wanna buy it....i'm finished my money to get the fenix ;-)

let me know if you find any solution or if you try with newer devide.

thanks for know. i'm not alone ;-)

  • Connected with iphone no matter how old it is it works perfectly including siri and voice commands .
On android however new it is full of problems. On IOS the bluetooth connection is independent of the Garmin Connect app that means it works even when the app is closed. On android it's the opposite if the GC app is closed or it's an old model of android with little ram memory these problems you will have forever because the system does not carry .

  • I never had any issues with F7x, but of course answering calls was not supported. So the main feature upgrade is unusable for people with what model exacly? That should be given as a list, before I bought the watch. From 3 days of ownig the watch, I discover and report bugs every day to Garmin. There is no point of keeping this device, I'm returning it.

  • It's exactly the new features I'm talking about and I don't think there will be any fix.
I'm convinced that it's not Garmin's fault but rather every android brand how they implement the bluetooth connection and how the system manages the GC app.
Android has auto kill on apps and that's where you should go. If you can run the GC app non-stop from your phone then you probably won't have any problems. Some brands have that.

That's the reason why in ios it works flawlessly because the bluetooth connection doesn't depend on the app

  • But I have smartphone in wakeup mode, connect is open and dialling from watch is not causing any reaction on the phone. It can't be applications management if my applications is currently active on the screen of the smartphone.

  • Hello, I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. For this, there are some initial troubleshooting steps I would recommend trying.

    • Ensure the watch is on the latest SW version using Garmin Express.
    • Ensure your phone is on the latest OS version. There are a few models that we have found are not compatible with the Voice Assistant features on the watch: Phone Incompatibility List for Voice Assistant Watches
    • Next I would recommend ensuring the following:
    • Once you have done this, I would recommend powercycling the watch and the phone. Then test this again.
    • If there is no change, try pairing again from scratch with these steps:
    1. Uninstall the Connect Mobile app
    2. Clear the phone cache and history
    3. Ensure the watch does not appear in the phone's Bluetooth menu. If it is, please remove the device
    4. Powercycle the watch and phone. To do this, hold the Light button until this shuts off. Then power on again
    5. Reinstall the Connect Mobile app
    6. Try the pairing again ( Be sure there are no other Bluetooth enabled device nearby)
