Display dimming in the dark environment. (low Brightness)

I bought a fenix 8 amoled 47mm. Everything seems good. But i can not bare the display getting too dim in the dark. It gets too low that it becomes unreadable. Please do something Pray. Its insane that we spent 1371 USD on a watch n then you face a issue. I like in Bahrain and i bought it for 517 BHD which is = to 1371 USD. I hope someone from Garmin reads this and fix the issue

  • The current garmin 8 model is my fifth watch in the series.

The current garmin 8 model is my fifth watch in the series.

No ability to interfere with the automatic screen dimmer despite so many suggestions, despite such applications on other Garmin models. On top of this, the announcement of the introduction of new features for a subscription fee, gives room for competition and motivates me to take an interest in their offerings which I never wanted to do. But ok Garmin, as you wish. By ignoring us, you shatter the trust in the brand you've built up over the years. Looking at the current policy, I doubt an American company cares about European standards. It is a shock to me what is happening.

  • Hello, I bought the fenix 8 pro amoled 47mm and i have exactly the same issue.

I have the screen brightness setting to 2/3 otherwise it's too bright during the day. But my issue is that in very dark condition or in the dark, the screen dims so much... I can barely read the texts. For example I had the evening summary which  is a white text on a black background ,
I could barely read it and I have very good eyes.  I never had such an issue with my epix pro gen2 which I have used for over 2 years. Please help!! I paid 1199 euros dor this watch and this problem is extremely annoying!! Thank you

The function of the display brightness/dimming with the ambient light sensor, is the same on the Fenix 8 Pro series.

  • Thank you for your reply. Then what is the solution?

This is way too dark and impossible to read in dark conditions.

The dimming of the screen is super aggressive.

Is Garmin going to solve the issue trough a software update? This is not acceptable for a watch that i paid 1199 euros!! I should be able to read the screen in all conditions.

I have used an epix pro gen 2 for over 2 years and never had an issue.... not a single time. Could you please escalate this issue? Thanks a lot for your help.

  • I bought a Garmin Fenix 8 in April but returned it because the brightness was far too low in dark environments. I contacted support and was told that this is “by design” and nothing they plan to address.

My brother did the same and also returned his Fenix 8.

Two weeks ago, I purchased a Garmin Forerunner 970 instead, and the brightness is significantly better—both in dark rooms and in bright daylight. The AMOLED display on the Forerunner 970 is clearly superior to the one on the Fenix 8.

I suspect the Fenix 8’s display is of lower quality, and that Garmin decided to use a better screen on the Forerunner 970 in response to the massive amount of complaints about the poor brightness on the Fenix 8.

  • Garmin never fixes these kind of "issues", because - for whatever reason - they designed it this way, and no amount of bug reports will change their position about it.

Infamous examples the spikes in WHR data in all garmin watches now and the body fat calculation of the garmin scale 2, when the body fat was not measured but estimated based on your activity level, despite having a sensor in the scale for it. Also, I can count the grade calculation of the bike computers, where the grades sometimes could be easily negative (according to the computer) while climbing up 10% for hours.

These are all intentional features from garmin and these are perfectly fine for them.

These won't be fixed ever irrespectively how much have you paid.

  • I would advise anyone who has a problem with low brightness on Fenix 8 to read and reply to the following post accordingly:

    https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-8-series/419393/canonical-fix-fenix-8-amoled-extreme-auto-dimming-coordinated-reports-action

Author's goal is to gather simple reports to demonstrate scale, then send a consolidated request to Garmin Support. If needed, create a petition and run a short social push.

  • But my watch is a fenix 8 pro amoled, the brand new one with LTE and satellite. The screen is different from.the fenix 8 non pro. It goes easily to 2000 nits. It's extremely bright during the day, as bright as the forerunner 970.

My issue is that in the dark it dims so much and so aggressively I can't read and see stuff!!

During the day absolutely powerful and brilliant.

When it's dark then it dims so much... !!! Cannot read.
