Display dimming in the dark environment. (low Brightness)

I bought a fenix 8 amoled 47mm. Everything seems good. But i can not bare the display getting too dim in the dark. It gets too low that it becomes unreadable. Please do something Pray. Its insane that we spent 1371 USD on a watch n then you face a issue. I like in Bahrain and i bought it for 517 BHD which is = to 1371 USD. I hope someone from Garmin reads this and fix the issue

  • I've recorded this video of my experience with the screen too dim in low light condition. If this is not translating the issue, then nothing will do it. But to my feelings, this topic is constantly repeated by users in multiple posts in this forum, so I'm not sure how many users need to report it, so Garmin would consider this important. To my opinion everyone should send official clam or they won't pickup this as problem.

  • nice video that shows the problem well.

interestingly enough, there is a comment on the beta forum that one of the FW15 betas have too bright a screen in dim conditions for some users.

IMHO, I think they need to have a 3 level approach to dimming level because everyone's yes are different. for me, the autodimming on the 1/3 brightness is "just" readable to my eyes (I use a different watch face with larger fonts as I find Iron Grit difficult to read with its font for my old eyes), but I also have a friend with younger eyes who could not read my watch in a dark setting. so, different people need different autodialing, must like people need different brightness levels for daylight conditions (battery life, notwithstanding)

  • from the last Gaurmin-Laurie reply, they use the phrase they "investigated" the issue. Where "investigated" phrase is in the past tense.  They won't make this change, or can't due to a hardware or technical limitation.  It's been 8 months of us asking and nothing.  I've given up as I really believe they don't consider it an issue but just a "your eyesight sucks because you're old" kind of issue.

  • I honestly think it's a lame response on Garmin's part ,and as I noted, anecdotally, someone mentioned that the beta is too bright for them. so they clearly have some knobs they can turn if they want to.

oddly, I am guessing light sensitivity (again anecdotally based on 2 data points) is not age related. as I noted, the current autodimming on 13.35 is workable for me. it's a hair dim, but I can read it. if I had the choice, I'd want it boosted a smidge. however, I asked my friend who is 20 years younger what he thought and he couldn't read my watch in a very dark situation.

  • I have the same problem and have been waiting for a solution for eight months. I can't believe this is a hardware issue; every sensor is controlled by software.

There are already enough forum posts about this, so Garmin should accept that it's a problem for many people.

  • If it's a hardware or software limitation where it's just not possible, just tell us so we can all stop asking vs. stringing us all along.

  • Anyone who can compare fenix 8 to some older model like epix 2 or venu 3 can clearly see this issue. My trust in garmin has vanished with this issue. Really lame from them to give us some stupid excuses.

I am writing to follow up on a concern I previously reported regarding the brightness adjustment on my Garmin Fenix 8 watch. Specifically, I have found that the screen brightness cannot be increased sufficiently in dark environments, which makes the device difficult to use — especially for users with visual impairments or in low-light conditions.

I understand from your support team that this behavior is “by design.” However, I would like to point out that under the upcoming EU Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882), products that include digital interfaces — particularly those with communication, navigation, or health-monitoring features — will be required to meet certain accessibility standards as of June 28, 2025.

Among these standards are requirements for perceivability and usability, which include ensuring that displays can be adapted to various lighting conditions and user needs. While the Fenix series is primarily known for sports and fitness, its smart features (such as notifications, calls, and health alerts) bring it under the scope of digital accessibility in many user scenarios.

Therefore, I kindly request that Garmin:

    • Reconsiders the current design choice and offers users more control over screen brightness, especially in low-light conditions.
    • Evaluates this feature against upcoming EU accessibility requirements.

  • God luv ya man!   But garmin has decided it's not an issue and isn't looking back.  We expected better and got burned. No way my next watch will be a garmin.

  • same here after many years this nails it for me, my f8 51 is TRASH regarding screen and this brightness issue, can't use it indoors and even less outdoors in dark environment total disappointment.
