Display dimming in the dark environment. (low Brightness)

I bought a fenix 8 amoled 47mm. Everything seems good. But i can not bare the display getting too dim in the dark. It gets too low that it becomes unreadable. Please do something Pray. Its insane that we spent 1371 USD on a watch n then you face a issue. I like in Bahrain and i bought it for 517 BHD which is = to 1371 USD. I hope someone from Garmin reads this and fix the issue

  • This is NOT a watch face issue. The same problem can be seen with incoming messages as well. And like I said, the dimming hasnt been this visible in the previous models.

  • It doesn't appear too dim. The test I done was to have the light on and tilt my wrist to activate the display, display = nice and bright and clear. Whilst it was still displaying the watch face I turned the light off, you can actively see the face dimming as if its a sensor adjusting it.

Is what I have described the known issue?

  • No. But there used to be an issue with earlier versions where the watch would dim altogether but this was fixed in one of the first updates.

The whole watch dimming too much its likely a fault with the sensor / maybe software.

I would plug in the watch and update it with Garmin Express and see if that does anything.

  • Our comments were heard.  Yesterday, the update came in, which does not change the software version number 11.90. I don't know what else has been improved, but it is certainly now possible to read the screen in the dark and I think it react better to gesture. Thank you garmin team Thumbsup

  • I got the update too but I'm not sure if it helped that much.. I just went to a completely dark bathroom and the screen was still quite dark imo. But let's see, I think 12.21 version is going to be published soon also.

  • I got the same update yesterday but it didn't fix the DIM Face Expressionless Maybe it was just a precursor for the next version.

  • Hello,

I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the watch face being too dim in low lights. Our engineers have been investigating this, but unable to reproduce a scenario where the watch face was too dim to read, even in low light conditions. However, if you are experiencing this, we would like to see what you experiencing. For this, please feel free to reach out to me via Private Message.

  • I'm experiencing the same issue with the 8 51mm model. I've also posted about this, and it's baffling and disappointing that Garmin engineers can't replicate the problem in a dark environment. Simply put, in a dark environment, the watch face dims, then brightens for a few seconds before dimming again, even though the active time is set to 15 seconds. On my 8-second interval, it doesn't have the opportunity to brighten up. Garmin should either remove this dimming behavior entirely or provide an option in the display settings to enable/disable the dim feature, and ideally, allow us to set the duration before it dims.

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue. As mentioned, we are wanting to collect examples of this, from those that are having the issue. I have not yet received any examples. So if you are having this issue, I will reach out to you via Private Message to collect specifics.

  • One thing I find ridiculous is that a video cannot capture the brightness dimming difference on a phone camera. It basically cannot capture the dimmed part on video; it looks almost identical. I mean, I can't see the difference on the video while I can with the naked eye. In my estimation, in a dark environment, the display is dimmed immediately by at least 60% of the normal full range lumens, so let's say it starts with about 40-45%.
