Do you experience random reboots and/or freezes when doing an activity? If yes, please comment.

Hi All!

I've been reading countless comments about F7 watches (also other devices from the F7 series such as Epix, Enduro and Tactix) producing unexpected reboots and freezes. Unfortunately, this has been the case for many users since November 2024 and now it is end of January 2025. As far as I saw this happens while using different activities such as walking, hiking, running, track run, trail run, triathlon and the list goes on.

I witnessed how frustrating this could be as my wife was going through the same. I believe, we did all we could, even more. We did countless soft and hard resets, installed the same latest 19.41 production FW from the watch's developer menu, rolled back to FW 18.16 which appeared temporarily good then failed as well. After having spent so much time and energy, today my wife's loved Fenix 7s Sapphire Solar was taken to the Garmin official store in our location. After we shared all our experiences and explained in detail the actions we did the representative made no questions and exchanged the watch to a PRO model. The representative mentioned that he was not aware of any Pro models failing. Since the community have no official information I thought to create this post and I am asking you all facing reboots and/or freezes to provide the following information below in a comment. Perhaps this will reveal something useful that can be used by the Garmin folks.

1. Model of your device.

2. Software version (production or beta)

3. Short description of the circumstances (for ex.during track running, following a preloaded course while using hiking, etc.)

Thank you for your input.

  • I've done several 5 hour+ runs now since the 20.22 upgrade and have had no random reboots and the watch detects external sensors again automatically, so I'm fairly confident the issue is resolved (in 19.41, 20.14 and 20.16 I would not get two hours into a navigated activity without a reboot to paused screen, followed by further reboots throughout the activity).

  • My Fenix 7X Solar rebooted around mile 20 of a running activity today.

I had just scrolled to a different display screen and was using navigation on a premade route generated in Strava.  US device and was running in the USA (Colorado).

  • 1. Fenix 7, titan, solar saphire

    2. SW version 20.22

    3. During a Golf activity while having automatic shot length measuring active, the watch shows a >20 second lag when confirming or changing the club. Button clicks and touch screen actions are buffered and will be "replayed" after the lag. Very annoying :-(

In addition to this: Sometimes when going back. to the hole overview screen the map in the right hand part of the screen is not shown.

    Anyone with a similar experience?

A complete watch reset and a full software installation did not resolve this.

However, I had 3rd party watch faces active during the action. Maybe that could be the reason?

Update 14-Apr-2025: With the current SW 20.22 no more crashes/ restarts during the golf activity, which was definitely the case on older SW versions.

I played a round of golf today with a stock watch face - and guess what!?? No lags during the complete round...

I have a Fenix 7X solar (soft 21.04) and I have a problem with the watch restarting. I noticed it for the first time on 04.04.25 when I was supposed to run with Garmin Coach for 40 minutes. During the run, I suddenly see the Fenix logo, then a query about Spotify and a paused workout. I started the workout and a moment later again: Fenix, Spotify, Paused workout and so on for a total of 5 times. In the end, I think I went further into Spotify songs, disconnected Bluetooth from the phone, turned on the headphones through the watch and it worked. But of course the activity with Garmin Coach was interrupted. Today I was supposed to run an hour with GC. After a kilometer, the Fenix logo. Then it was OK but the activity with GC was interrupted again and there is no going back. I ran 13 km without any problems. I turned off the activity, saved the workout and the Fenix logo popped up again.

  • 1. Fenix 7X solar

    2. 21.06

    3. Running, after 1 km was reset, it was Garmin Coach training.......WITHOUT COURSE MODE!!!!!!!! Normalrunning. It's annoying..... Yesterday same problem (but yesterday was with course).

  • Upgrade to FW 20.22 and there will be no problem any more.

  • we have some major issues with 21.xx beta, since some beta (and then public) Garmin introduce regressions, it is very unbelievable !

    • Using Coach or Workout, imply random reset during activity
    • Please note, we are aware of an issue where recording a Strength Activity with Auto Set enabled will cause the device to crash. We are working on resolving this issue as fast as we can. If this issue is affecting your daily usage, please consider disabling the Auto-Set feature. This feature can be disabled on the device from Strength Settings -> Auto Set (toggle Off here.)
  • I run three times a week following workouts in TrainingPeaks. So far, the watch hasn’t been turned off even once. Right now on 21.06b
