Do you experience random reboots and/or freezes when doing an activity? If yes, please comment.

Hi All!

I've been reading countless comments about F7 watches (also other devices from the F7 series such as Epix, Enduro and Tactix) producing unexpected reboots and freezes. Unfortunately, this has been the case for many users since November 2024 and now it is end of January 2025. As far as I saw this happens while using different activities such as walking, hiking, running, track run, trail run, triathlon and the list goes on.

I witnessed how frustrating this could be as my wife was going through the same. I believe, we did all we could, even more. We did countless soft and hard resets, installed the same latest 19.41 production FW from the watch's developer menu, rolled back to FW 18.16 which appeared temporarily good then failed as well. After having spent so much time and energy, today my wife's loved Fenix 7s Sapphire Solar was taken to the Garmin official store in our location. After we shared all our experiences and explained in detail the actions we did the representative made no questions and exchanged the watch to a PRO model. The representative mentioned that he was not aware of any Pro models failing. Since the community have no official information I thought to create this post and I am asking you all facing reboots and/or freezes to provide the following information below in a comment. Perhaps this will reveal something useful that can be used by the Garmin folks.

1. Model of your device.

2. Software version (production or beta)

3. Short description of the circumstances (for ex.during track running, following a preloaded course while using hiking, etc.)

Thank you for your input.

  • I use the watch for hiking 4-8 hours per day. Every day. And I had one or two reboots per month since the watch decided to update from 15'77 to 17'28.

The reboots are during activity and using navigation. Never lose any data. Before I never had a reboot, but the situation is not super critical for me

  • you're wrong.
After a sudden restart of the device you lose the training effect data accumulated up to that moment (epoc data), for me it would be a serious loss because a ride with aerobic effort at 4 and anaerobic effort at 3, after restarting the device these values are reset and resume from that moment.
When I return home, I get a training effect related only to the km accumulated after the restart, therefore a lower epoc, an incorrect training status. Many users do not look and do not understand this data, but it is fundamental for those who understand it.

  • Yes, I know that. I wanted to say never lose all the km and altitude I did previously to the reboot.

  • Thank you, I understand. I had no such problems on 17.28

  • Firmware 20.16. When using the jump rope application, it reboots at the end of the approach. I have attached a video.
If you turn off Bluetooth on your watch, it won't reboot.
  • That's a solid reproducer.

  • My F7 S.S. crashed almost every run on v19.41. After deleting the ephemeris data, it seemed to work again (although @garmin-laurie mentioned that the ephemeris/reboot issue was an unrelated one).

Yesterday, my watch inadvertently upgraded to v.20.14 and it crashed again on the first run!

  • garmin crashed again today. after 8km running an 40minutes. Bluetooth to aripods activ (listening spotify offline) and garmin coach training was active. i will upload ram.txt file again. no map and navigation active

  • I have same issue on Epic Gen 2

  • Same issue here with sw version 20.16 on my Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar.  This did not happen when on the previous sw version 19.41.  My watch updated to 20.16 last night.  Works fine if I select a Cardio workout and tag the exercise as Jump Rope, but of course it does not count the reps properly.
