Sapphire vs non-sapphire reflections

In 6-series there is a huge difference in screen reflections and readability between sapphire(=much worse) and cheaper glass. But the Power Sapphire is genuine new so we need a comparison of reflection on 7-series solar sapphire vs solar non-sapphire. Is there any side-by-side photo of this?

Its a deal breaker for me, I prefer better display readability rather than more resistant sapphire & bigger storage & multiband...

  • Some seam to have different understanding in what means "perfectly readable". 

    How can photos that show watches side by side "greatly exaggerate" something? Everbody can have a look and make his own conclusions. There can some facts be seen on these photos that nobody can deny, not even the greatest fanboy.

  • According to Corning's website 6s has Gorilla Glass DX and I would trust them more than Garmin, but you are right Garmin says GG3. But imo the Fenix 5 Plus had GG3 and the F6 had a much less reflective GG, so I guess Garmin is wrong and manufacture Corning maybe right with GG DX on the F6 series. 

    I also considered the touchscreen layer. It could make it more dull and maybe this is the reason why the display seems much "deeper" built in, looks like there are more layers on top of the display itself. But that wouldn't explain the glare, only the not so crisp screen. You need a higher brightness for it to be more readable. The small font size of the menus on the smaller 7s only make it worth. 

    Again, non solar non sapphire F7s really has a bad readability. I was so blown away by the F6 series two years ago, compared to the F5 Plus. But now a big step backwards. I would have loved to keep the 7s. But those reflections and glare and the non removable pins are a big no-go. Would have loved the touchscreen integrated for everyday usage. 

    And Corning says DX has 75% better readability which I agree with the F6s Pro ... but the Fenix 7s also has GG DX and much worth readability. How can that be? So strange...

    I don't know man. I don't have my 6X here right now to take a side by side picture, but so far I think even the pickiest people would consider my watch to be "perfectly readable" indoors... if someone can't read this then the watch isn't their problem

    I'm not suggesting that the contrast is as good as Epix, or even as good as Gorilla Glass Fenix. I'm just saying, it's perfectly readable.

  • So you are saying that you removed the coating simply with a toothbrush and toothpaste ? With use toothpaste btw ? I'm curious to know, I wouldn't like to do something stupid :-P this coating is a real issue, so I'm interested by any solution :-)

  • I think its not that perfectly readable under any circumstances.

  • I have the Venu 2. That watch does have what looks like to be the same glare. So could be related to touchscreen? However the glare is only visible when holding the watch in a specific angle. So not really an issue - I think. 

  • Yeah but Venu 2 has AMOLED, strong vibrating colors and amazing contrast. So this is not big a deal. MIP displays are another thing ... 

  • Totally agree. With the right angle you can make every display etc look good. 

    the other user should make photos under normal circumstances in every angle with different light conditions. 

    So from every comment on reddit and here we can agree: The 7 series has (much) worth readability and much more glare. And with the normal 7(s) vs 6(s) Pro without solar or sapphire you see massive difference. 

    It really could be the touchscreen layer. But as much as I love TS on the F7s it is a NoGo for me. Because with MIP displays you need less glare than with Amoled because colors are much less vibrating, contrast is much worse on those displays. And I love MIP displays, don't need a fancy screen on a watch. But glare and reflections have to be really low here. 

    When I look and compare my normal 6s Pro and 7s, every time I can't believe how much worse the 7s is. This is really really like a night and day difference. My pictures can't even show the reality. But your pic shows exactly what I mean. You need to get a device and compare it yourself. I just can give everyone the advice to not sell their Fenix 6 series before getting the 7 series. Even with backlight 10%-20% higher than my 6s I see less of the display because of all the glare. But I am talking about everyday life and indoor activity, haven't had the time to try it outdoors yet. But why should it be less of a difference in sunlight... 

    So I need to skip and keep my Venu 2s, and my Fenix 6s Pro as my main device. Maybe there will be an Epic 2 42mm, then I would try that. But with AMOLED Garmin recommends not to use Always-On because of possible burn-in. So another reason against buy a Garmin AMOLED. Till there is no Epic 2 42mm, NO. 

  • Same problem between my old F945 and my F7 classic (non solar - non sapphire). Reflections are less visible and bluer on F945 ... i don't know if i keep this F7 ...

       

  • Very good photo, this shows exactly what I discovered for myself. I don´t know why Garmin doesn´t apply the same a/r coating at least to the Fenix 7 non sapphire, if it clearly shows that improvement on a much cheaper FR945.
