GPS no longer connects since software update

Hi

Fenix 6 GPS no longer connects since the software update. Has anyone solved this issue?

Cheers J

Unfortunately these reinstall software steps will only work on the newer devices, such as Fenix 7/Epix gen2. On the Fenix 6,  this will access a Developer menu, but reinstall software is not…

  • I would first try a hard reset (hold light button until it shuts down, then turn on again). If this does not help, sync it with Garmin Express.

Also check if the satellite setting in your activity is correct (e.g. "GPS + GLONASS").

  • I tried several times, but it is more like it is switched off. There is no attempt to connect. I tried changing GPS settings in activities.

  • I had a very similar problem the day before yesterday - after the automatic update (gramin 6x sapphire) , the GPS connected, but it was absolutely inaccurate - literally unusable. I managed to solve the problem yesterday. Although I have an automatic update set on my watch - through the watch menu (settings - System - software update) I managed to find the option to search for updates and my watch found another update. I installed it, restarted the watch and it seems to be working fine again as before. I currently have software version 27.0 (6a5363d)

  • What have you tried several times? Hard reset or Garmin Express sync?

In your activity settings, do you maybe have a power profile set that has GPS disabled?

Have you tried a factory reset?

    • Go to your System > About menu
      • press the top left Light Button 8 times
        • Go to the very bottom
          • select the option to reinstall the software.

    Hello

IN additional to some of the other great recommendations made here, ie checking your battery save settings, checking you activity satellite settings, factory reset, I would also recommend checking to ensure your GPS SW version is present in the watch. Menu, System, About, Scroll down.

If the GPS version is listed as 0.00, you will want to try reinstalling this using Garmin Express.

    1. Connect the watch with a computer
    2. Launch Garmin Express
    3. Add the device
    4. Click on Tools and Content
    5. Click on the Utilities tab
    6. Select Additional Updates
    7. If the GPS version is available, select to install this
    8. Disconnect the device and allow the update to install
  • Hi Laurie, quick question... Does the "reinstall software" option under the Developer menu perform a complete factory reset (back to original firmware, etc.) .. or is it the same as a regular 'hard reset' ala the normal menu options (i.e. just a data wipe and settings reset). Thanks

  • Does the "reinstall software" option under the Developer menu perform a complete factory reset

No, reinstall software only initiates the software update again. So this will not factory reset the watch.
