Battery dying extremely quick

I am enrolled in the beta program and this weekend I planned on hiking and recording my progress. I fully understand that tracking a hike draws battery but I left with a full charge and after 2 miles I was down to 3 days left of battery. I was very unhappy that less than 3 days later I'm carrying around a paperweight. I contacted customer support and explained the situation. They proposed I disenroll from the beta program and submit some sort of feedback here. I need to apparently try and trouble shoot here before Garmin is willing to help me with other avenues of correcting this battery issue. Any and all help is appreciated.

  • This is the Beta forum, so probably the wrong section to ask if you are not on a beta firmware. But anyways: I do not fully understand the issue. Which watch model do you have? Do you mean the watch showed 3 days of battery during the recording of the activity? Because that's already very long. The top model (Fenix 6X Solar) offers up to 66h (2.75 days) of activity recording.

  • I appreciate the questions for clarity. I am enrolled in the beta program and that is why I am posting here. In an effort to troubleshoot my issue with my fenix 6 sapphire I was asked to disenroll and to continue activity and see if there was a difference in battery life.

When I hit the trailhead, my watch was fully charged. I hit the hike button and recorded 1 1/2 hours/2 miles of hiking (it was crazy steep, I'm not normally that slow!) and when I was done I stopped and ended the activity. Once I did my battery life was then indicating that I had three days remaining of battery life. My watch then died while out in the field. I hope this clarifies.

  • Sounds like what happened to my fenix6 a few weeks ago. Since then I wasn't able to use it to anything meaningful (not even to use it as a regular watch to display time) -  it is literally used as a paperweight on my desk - so I had to buy a new watch Disappointed

  • I think i found some solution. Yesterday during charging i pushed light button till power off and after 1-2 min i powered my watch on. Left it till 100% charge and since then (~24h) i lost 6%. It's still ~0,3% per hour, but it's better than 0,7%...

    Important!
    1. Plug your watch to normal outlet - not PC/Laptop/Other.
    2. Do not disconnect power plug during restarting your watch. After boot up you should see your normal watchface, not the charging one (radar style charging % face).

    Hope it will help you

  • First thing to try is always to turn off the watch by long pressing the light button until it turns off. If that doesn't help, try setting it to airplane mode for a day to check if it changes something (to rule out a sync issue). Last resort is to do a full factory reset.

DO NOT force a deep discharge of the battery as suggested in the other thread. This can permanently damage the battery.
