Fenix 6 pro GPS accuracy ruined after update 26.00

The update to 26.00 completely ruined GPS. Before update the GPS line was smooth, but after the update GPS line seems to be jumping around all the time. In addition to that it takes a very long time to get the GPS signal. And note that there are no tall buildings or some other things that could ruin the GPS signal. I've been running the same routes for several years with no GPS issues until now.

Here's a list of things I tried and did not work:

* reset the watch back to factory settings

* Try different modes: only GPS, GPS+glonass, GPS+galileo

The watch is synced to my phone, so it must have the latest gps data.

I have no Idea what I could try next.

Here are the before and after screen shots of the same route. The wobbling of the route adds something like 200-300 meters to every kilometer.

  • I am sorry you are having issues. If resetting your watch and adjusting your GPS options does not clear up the behavior, your watch will need to be exchanged. Please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • I have the same GPS issues since I updated to SW 26.00 (GPS 6.60). I have tried to change GPS options and to reset my Fenix 6, but the issues persist.

  • This is my thread, I had problems with 25.10. Now, I paid 200 Euros and received a replacement watch did the update and in addition to the previous problems appearing again (WiFI, USB, freezing, etc), GPS completely stopped and constantly asks me Reboot Required! I'm fed up with these updates that constantly break the watch!

  • Good afternoon.

I have the same problem afeter updating to version 26.00. Have you reported your problem through the Product Support? I have just have a chat with Product Support (Spain) and they have told me that they are not aware of a similar issue, although I have mentioned this thread.

The only troubleshooting I have been prompted to do is to reset my Fenix 6 (losing all the data) and trying again. I have not tried this option as I am not very confident this would solve the issue. I am not an expert, but I think this issue could be solved through a SW update. Maybe, if we all that are experiencing this problem contact to the Product Support, they would have visibility of it and may escalate to the appropriate department.

  • Sorry to hear that you have the same problem. Today, I again contacted Garmin Nederland Support and we tried the hard reset procedure on the phone (and, indeed it does wipe all your data):

    1. Turn off the watch.

    2. Hold down the top and bottom right buttons at the same time.

    3. Then while holding the other two buttons down, hold and press the left upper button (power button) for 2 seconds.

    4. After hearing the first beep sound let go of the top right button.

    5. After hearing the second beep let go of the bottom right button.

It takes a good 5 minutes to do the wiping, reboot, and ask for your preferences such as language, etc.

With that being said, it only solved the GPS issue for me. Still, WiFi and USB recognition issues persist. So, I arranged another replacement under warranty with them.

  • Similar problem here. The tracks my watch is recording are not as wobbly as the ones from yours, but they are consistently off the track for 15 - 20 m for long stretches of the tracks. I already tried resetting the watch - didn't help.

  • Hopeless for me to. A 10.4km run is recorded as a 10.97km run. So pace way out and I presume all other analytics based on distance are way out as well. So functionally useless.

  • Update:

The watch just did not work properly anymore.

I took the Garmin support option to pay 200€ and get a replacement watch. Now waiting for it.

  • Have Garmin confirmed you it is not a fixable problem related to the SW update? I think it is clear that the issue related to the GPS is due to the SW update. I belived it could be solved through a SW update.

Did Garmin offered you another option apart from paying 200€ for a replacement?

Today, a 19k trail run has been recorded as a 23k run. Obviously, the pace is ridiculous.

  • Had the same issue... Solved it by changing data recording settings from 'smart' to 'every second'.
