Battery drain after 26.00

Automatically updated to version 26.00 mid week, now experiencing significant battery drain 2% per hour. Soft reset three times, no improvement. Charged to 100% yesterday at 2pm EST and now at 56%, at 11 EST … and only did a 5km run.

Before I could get 5-6 days per charger and that is with running 1 hour per day. Pulse OX always off, turned off ABC.

Looks like I’ll get 2 days per charge now … working perfect until 26.00

  • There seems to be something wrong with the firmware update process that leaves the watch's filesystem in an undesirable state.  The watch CPU could be churning excessively (causing the increase battery consumption) because of the state of the filesystem.

Indeed, there seem to be a problem with the firmware update process. Here, on the forum, we can see "battery drain" complaints after every new release of a new firmware for any Garmin watch model, every quarter since many years. Since the problem typically goes away after soft-resetting the watch, and going through the full charging cycle, it is quite probable that it happens due to the loss of the battery gauge calibration. Once the watch reestablishes the maximum and minimum battery voltages, the battery gauge and the battery life estimate start to show correct values again.

Tips how to cope with this issue, and how to prevent it, are available in the Troubleshooting guide for high battery drain

  • To my Enduro none of the reset types helped, so my new interpretation of going through a full charging cycle started an enforced full depletion of the battery. I could go below zero percent.

I know that this drill my hurt the battery, especially if it is a regular habit, but I assumed that one depletion in itself was not a battery killer

  • Can someone tell me how to reset to the 25.79 firmware or find a link to instructions? My battery started draining after the update and I can't get through 12 hours without it dying. Forget about using it for an activity. I did all the resets multiple times. This watch is useless now. Can't even tell time after 12 hours. Would appreciate some help on how to go back in time. Thanks

  • Hello, did you manage to overcome the problem with battery consumption?

  • After a hard reset my watch was working fine

  • Thank you so much!!!!, after replacing the battery trying all sorts of things, deleting a unused watchface did the trick!

  • Is there a place where I can get the previous version for my 6s ? I’ve had to charge my watch every night lately

That's not because of the firmware version, otherwise everyone would experience the same, and it is definitely not the case. Have a look at the Troubleshooting guide for high battery drain for the tips how to fix it.

  • After having "solved" the problem, let me tell you about my experience and all the steps I had to take.
    1. With my watch, I conducted numerous tests, including soft resets, hard resets, firmware upgrades, and firmware downgrades. I also tried manually deleting problematic folders in my file system, following Garmin's support instructions. None of this worked. A Garmin employee admitted to me that out of all the watches experiencing the battery drain issue, only 50% of them manage to solve it with any of the aforementioned options, and in the other 50%, no solution is found. This latter scenario was my case. In fact, even Garmin themselves don't know or understand why this is happening. Or at least, they don't publicly acknowledge it. Although they are aware of the problem many users are randomly facing.
    2. Dealing with Garmin Spain, I was "forced" to send them the watch to their facilities along with an upfront payment of €200. If my watch was repairable, they would fix it and deduct the repair cost from the €200, returning the difference. If the watch was not repairable, then they would keep the full €200, and send me a "new" unit of the same watch. And I say "new" because they make it very clear that what they send is a refurbished unit. That is, it is not new.
    3. Few days later, I had a refurbished new watch at my house, with a one-year warranty. This new unit, in firmware version V26.00, does not seem to exhibit the fault for now.

All of this, in a very slow process, as each contact with Garmin's technical service takes an average of 5-6 days to respond, making the process endless and frustrating.

I hope this can help some of you following this thread, and understand what you're up against with "Garmin service."

    Best regards.

  • Did you replace the battery by yourself? If yes, did you buy one from China?

My battery is not as good as it was after 3 years and I would like to change but I trust these batteries too much.
