Fenix 6x Pro - no WiFi connection

My Fenix 6X Pro no longer connects to WiFi. Even just upgraded the Firmware version to 23.00

Doesn't find any WiFi network.

How to solve?

  • For any abnormal behavior immediately after a new software release, please try the following:

Adding, Removing, and Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Networks With a Compatible Garmin Outdoor Watch

    1) Power your watch off then on again.

    2) Hard reset your watch by holding down your top left button until your watch shuts off.

    3) Reset to Factory Settings

Please test in between each step done since any one of them will often resolve the behavior. If you continue to have the same issue using Wi-Fi, please reach out to Outdoor Product Support in your region.

  • Thanks Chris.

Tried all you suggested, the problem still present.

  • Can someone confirm as well whether it syncs or not.. I did WiFi sync again and got "sync failed" but I got the course updated (which is what I was after), so I think it does sync, just gives you wrong message in the end

Here is an old thread forums.garmin.com/.../1100553

  • Can confirm that it NOT sync, it connect ,but the result is always the same : "sync failed".

  • Funny... Didn't work this morning, just tried again and now it worked...? Gonna try my FR945 tomorrow.

Btw, as with my FR945, even though it always displayed sync failed, certain things still were synchronized. At least steps, HR etc were always up do date on GC. So I don't know whether it's just a bogus message or only a few not so obvious things failed to sync.

  • Earlier today I turned on the wi-fi on my Fenix 6s Sapphire with FW 22.10 and tried to update the one and only Spotify playlist I have there.
It connected to the router we have at my workplace and and everything went fine.
Then I just wanted to try to proceed with a generic "Wi-Fi sync"
Initially I got "sync failed" twice, but the 3rd time it worked fine.

Now that I'm writing this, I tried again to do a "Wi-Fi Sync" and I just got five consecutive "sync failed" messages.
I turned the watch off, then on and tried again.
    I'm still getting "sync failed".

    I will try again later.
It seems this is an issue some of us have.
Sometimes the sync fails, other times it works fine.

  • OK, some more Infos on the matter:

    1. Very seldomly it does sync and brings the proper message when finished (yesterday evening once and today once on my fenix 6 Pro). But even if it works, the next syncs (even if just afterwards) will give the failed message again
    2. My wife has a fenix 6s and ist still on the last firmware (22.10), she too has this problem. So seems that it has nothing to do with 23.00 (though on my fenix 6 Pro I didn't notice this problem on 22.10...?)
    3. As I said, my FR945 has the same probem. I was on 10.40 and updated today to 11.10. Problem still persists
    4. I've removed and re-added the SSID's several times, with various reboots and soft resets in between. I did this via watch, Garmin Connect Mobile as well as through Garmin Express. No luck (both for the fenix 6 Pro and the FR945)
    5. I've done a hard reset on my FR945, no luck either... Since my FR945 is my backup watch (I always keep my last watch as a backup, when buying a new one) and has the same problem, I did reset it and not my fenix 6 Pro, not wanting to lose data and measurements on my main watch
    6. Again: even though it says failed, it does seem to sync at least some data. I don't know if that means that not everything is being synced (though I haven't found out yet what might not be synced) or if it's just a faulty message.

A bit OT, but since this is always suggested when people experience bugs (to be honest, rightly so) I'll add some thoughts on hard reset:

Yes, you can backup certain files, but: you still will have to redo a lot of things, which is tedious and takes time. Even worse, the watch has to "re-learn" you all over again (even though it has all data from before...??), which means that with HFV/HRV and everything related to it (especially VO2max) will be lost! When in preparation for a race this (for me) is very annoying!

Worst of all: in my experience (and I've had many Garmin watches in the past years), it has helped exatly ZERO times with bugs! (others have had better luck, but from what I read in the forums the percentage a hard reset does help is still very low...).

So, since this is something that people have to try when experiencing bugs/problems, I'll suggest that Garmin will give us a proper way to backup everything from the watch, so that doing a hard reset will not result in having to lose so much data and time.

I don't mean to bash Garmin. Unlike many others even though I find bugs annoying, I don't blame Garmin as much. These are complicated devices and every user has different settings and situations which no company could all forsee for testing. I'm just asking for a way to properly backup the watch, settings and measurements, so that doing proper troubleshooting doesn't mean losing so much data and measurements.

  • Hi All,

It is an odd problem, If I have both Bluetooth and WiFi switched on and do a manual sync from the watch, it gives me the choice to select which method via the back button, if I choose WiFi, I can see it as a connected device on my phone but it fails every time, if I choose Bluetooth, success every time.

If I open the GC app on my phone and connect with WiFi, the little spinning wheel at the top moves and the progress wheel moves but never completes and I get a big red Fail on the watch.

I'm sticking with Bluetooth as it is reliable

  • Yesterday evening all devices worked properly. This morning again the same error messages. So I guess it's on Garmin's side.
