Fenix 6 Series - 20.82 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

Our next beta version for the Fenix 6 series is now available!

Please email the Garmin Outdoor Quality Team if you find issues in software after installing this update: [email protected]

If you’ve participated in the Fenix 6 Beta Program previously, you’ll notice a few changes from how we have managed this in the past. And further down the line, we’ll have some additional improvements to the Beta Program (more on that later!) Notably, this forum post is now the primary resource for reading the change log notes – they are not available on another webpage. (There will be more options for viewing change logs after we implement the additional improvements to our beta program.)

The links to download the software update are listed below. Select the link specific to your watch model. Please note that your computer will download a .zip file when you open this link. This zip contains the software update, as well as a folder with the file necessary for backdating software, and instructions for this process if you choose to do so. Remember, backdating software will reset all settings.

Use these links to download the zip for your watch to update to version 20.82:

  2. Connect the watch to your computer.
  3. Copy the included gupdate.gcd file (from the System_x.xx folder) to the Primary\Garmin folder on your watch.
  4. If there is a Sensor Hub_v*** folder, place the gupXXXX.gcd file into the \GARMIN\REMOTESW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.

  • a new button feature is never 2 lines of code.

  • Agree. "2 lines code...", mine was an extreem of course. When people (=customers) have been asking for this for years it is time they put it in the implementation plans (it depends which Dev/programming methodology they use). If they don't even respond they don't even care and they won't plan it to implement= it will never be it.

Specifically for the features of continuos notification there is no new button to implement, rather a "loop" routine.

Specifically for silencing the call i/o only answer or hangup...it can be done by i.e. long-pressing one of the two buttons.

I don't think this will take more time (as an enhanced feature) than keep on playing with the Altimeter :-)

  • I had no issues with beta 20.51 and auto cal. set to on; it used to remain stable during the night, but with 20.82 it changes lots during the night.

Try to manually calibrate before you go to bed. It should then use that value every night for auto calibration. At least that works very well on 20 50.

Not if you travel, and your next night is at a different altitude - you want the complete opposite behavour.

  • The new Strength activity is nice but questionable.

First and foremost as others pointed out the body silhouette is completely grey even though on the Connect app it clearly shows which muscles are affected.

Then, during a structured training, during tests it kept switching to the new screen with the whole list of steps on the workflow. It highlighted the resting phase but a) it hid the HR, b) it hid the remains time for the phase, c) it didn't tell me whether next step would be another repetition of the same exercise or the first repetition of the new one and d) when switching screens going downwards it doesn't skip to the next screen, it just skips to the next serie of exercise: you either have to remember to click UP or you'll have to click DOWN several times in order to exit the workout detailed list screen.

I tried a short and easy structured activity and I found myself having to fiddle with the watch at least twice more to get the same data while training. Not satisfied.

  • Could someone check and see if the "Watchface" shortcut works at the Hot keys settings? I've just realized that it does not work no matter which hot key or hot keys combination I assign to that function. Other hot keys functions work without issues.

I have never used this before, but assigning bottom left button lo 'watchface' takes me directly to the default watchface during an activity.

    Is this the expected behaviour?

  • How do we force it Asia device? I have a Fenix 6x pro solar stuck at 19.40 and i use it in English in Thailand. I feel does not really track properly gps run s

  • Can we make it work on Asia devices what is the problem wr are stuck at 19.40 and i use it in English so happy to override it i am in Thailand with 6x pro solar

  • A lot of people seem to want metrics for the sake of metrics - even though the data is not reliable.

I find it strange how people put so much faith in body battery which I think is mostly faked - for example if I take my watch of my wrist my body battery will ALWAYS drop over the time it was not worn. But otherwise if I wear my watch 100% often body battery will rise during the day, for example if I read and book etc.

THIS! The problem with consumer devices is that clueless consumers are driving development based on marketing hype and competition between brands. "Well fitbit/xiaomi/whoop can detect naps and tell me how much REM I'm having!" - nevermind that this stuff would have very poor correlation with sleep stages compared to an actual sleep study, and is probably almost worthless data.

I ran into someone at an airport 6 months before F7 came out who said she wanted to upgrade F5s->F7s because F7 had EKG. a) how would she know it was going to have EKG? b) why is EKG important if it's a gimmick like with Coros where you have to sit still and grab the bezel, and it can't give you all-day information?

People want features that they don't understand and which don't matter because they have very little ability to differentiate between meaningful data and random worthless metrics. These same people seem to expect miracles of wrist-based OHR and SpO2 while ignoring that the data is often junk. Wrist-based running power is probably junk data, but Garmin will eventually be pressured to add it by the competition...

...because random worthless metrics sell devices!
