FENIX 6X Pro Sapphire - FAILED AFTER 2 YEARS

My Garmin Fenix 6X Pro failed only after 2 years of low to moderate use.  Customer service wants to charge $190 for a replacement.  The watch flashes the blue triangle then the Garmin sign non-stop.  I tried everything in the forums and nothing helped.  Garmin express also didn't recognize the watch.

If you're in the market for a Garmin, don't buy it.  $900 for a watch that fails after 2 years is outrageous.

  • EU here:
Don't know about the warranty, but buyed my watch in June '21.
Got an replacement (no charge) in March '22, when my Wifi was gone.
The replacement had hard battery drain after update on 22.25/23.00, again got an replacement (no charge) in September '22.

So that's more than 90 days, and I got the replacement without questioning.

Now I'm sitting on 23.10, because I can't afford to do without my watch for a few days at the moment.
And I'm afraid of another battery drain (what I read here in the forum).

But no problems with replacement or high charging in EU.

  • For what it's worth, the Dutch Consumer Association claims the following average lifespan for some smartwatches. They argue that a product with such a high price should also be expected to have a corresponding, average, lifespan. They rely on European consumer law.

    Wearables (smartwatches, acitivity trackers)
On average, when are wearables replaced due to defects or reduced functionality?

  • Good information to know.

Australia has a ‘consumer guarantee’. Basically, it says that people buy various items with an expectation of a life beyond the warranty period. The example provided is a television and basically says people expects TV to last more than 1 year and more like over5 years. Same thing applies for a car, appliances, bicycles, electronics etc. Therefore, if a failure occurs the manufacturer must repair or replace the item.

Same thing with maintenance support for items (something like 10years).

Given the many issues with software bugs that impact my 6X performance I’m tracking faults and will request a refund if needed. The consumer laws also require an item with major faults to be replaced (2 minor faults equal a major fault) so if bugs aren’t fixed I’ll be following up.

  • For all the outrage, it should be clear that smartwatches are disposable items.
The best comparison is with smartphones. Here, too, devices last 4 to 5 years, but who doesn't look around for a successor after 2 years?
A smartwatch is not a watch that you might bequeath, but a technical device with a limited shelf life.
It can work for a long time or break right after the warranty ... A matter of luck.
