FENIX 6X Pro Sapphire - FAILED AFTER 2 YEARS

My Garmin Fenix 6X Pro failed only after 2 years of low to moderate use.  Customer service wants to charge $190 for a replacement.  The watch flashes the blue triangle then the Garmin sign non-stop.  I tried everything in the forums and nothing helped.  Garmin express also didn't recognize the watch.

If you're in the market for a Garmin, don't buy it.  $900 for a watch that fails after 2 years is outrageous.

  • Well my wife's $900 Apple Watch failed after 18 months, and without Apple Care - there was nothing they could do for us.. Whereas my Garmin Instinct is going strong after 21/2 years. Its the luck of the draw with these things.

  • one way of looking at it is after 5 years or so you'd need to spend a similar amount just to have the battery replaced by Garmin, as its not user replaceable, so if the replacement watch comes with a new battery you're not out that much money in the long run.

I'm not happy about the battery situation myself, it appears these things aren't really a long term purchase.

But, if you're not that crazy about the watch, then it might be a good time to move on and leave it behind.

  • You are basically getting a factory refurbished watch for 190 dollars after 2 years. Why are you complaining?

  • I've never had a product fail after 2 years.  Especially a product that was $900.  If you're OK with that then you must be the one keeping Garmin in business.

  • Sorry to hear about your failed 6X...
For your consideration my Fenix Pro 6 (worn and used daily) is still getting strong since August 2019 and even many users of Fenix 5X and 5XPlus are still using them daily and they were much more buggy than 6X.
I even got two friends with first Garmin Instinct bought in 2018 with zero issue.
So you mileage with Garmin watches may vary.

Edit on 8th of March: Also even if the silver titanium bezel is scratched from use, creating some sort of patina and giving a lot of character, the sapphire crystal is still pristine (like new) after many falls and brutal encounters against various walls, stone and equipments. I have used a screen protector on my Instinct but no screen protection on my Fenix.
Also since last October I wear it on my strong hand (the right) so it is not babied at all.

  • bummer.  but being offered a solid refurb for $190 is a great deal.  Take it!

so- what brand of feature laden GPS wrist computer do you think will be more reliable?

  • Having it die after 2 years sucks and should not happen, but it is out of warranty by 1 year, correct?  Getting a new refurb for $190 despite being past warranty by 12 months is a lot better than many or most manufacturers would be will to do.   Yes it still sucks but it could be a lot worse, like having a $900 paperweight.

  • I've had 3 Suunto's and none of them failed after several years. As a matter of fact, I still have them.  I opted for Garmin because of the topo maps.

  • Yeah, you're right I just couldn't believe considering how well it was taken care of, how carefully it was used and how I updated the software every time it asked.  Some people here think its OK for it to fail but imagine the failure happening during an expedition or a winter hike.

  • It's not ok to fail. It just can happen. I have an eTrex 30, still working perfectly after 12 years of intense use. It's just a matter of sheer luck.
