FENIX 6X Pro Sapphire - FAILED AFTER 2 YEARS

My Garmin Fenix 6X Pro failed only after 2 years of low to moderate use.  Customer service wants to charge $190 for a replacement.  The watch flashes the blue triangle then the Garmin sign non-stop.  I tried everything in the forums and nothing helped.  Garmin express also didn't recognize the watch.

If you're in the market for a Garmin, don't buy it.  $900 for a watch that fails after 2 years is outrageous.

  • You are out of warranty. They offer you to replace the watch for 190$ while they could offer you nothing. This is a reasonable deal. Your experience is just one. My watch runs flawlessly, so does most of them out there. If you enjoyed the product before it broke, you should replace it at the high discount they offer you. If you didn't enjoy the product, get something else. But electronics do break, especially something that is worn all the time.

  • It really doesn't matter to OP since he is, justifiable, angry. The two year warranty covers possible manufacturing defects, we all expect a lot longer use for the watch. In fact the only reason that I don't buy an epix is because I got lucky (yes lucky perfect saphire, black contrast etc)with my fenix and don't want to deal with buttons problems etc.

  • I have to say I'm a bit surprised at the low bar being set by Fenix owners on this forum.  I have altimeter watches from the '90s that are still working, and I can replace the battery myself for less than $5.  Sure, they're not as sophisticated as the Fenix, but if Garmin can put the features in a watch, they should also be able to keep those features working for more than 2 years.  To have a $900 watch fail after 2 years is unacceptable, although I'll admit that its not unheard of, sometimes you just get a lemon.  If they offered me nothing, I'd never buy another Garmin product if I was the OP, and while the $190 refurb is a reasonable token gesture, it still stings.

Here in the UK you have up to 6 years year statutory rights against the retailer for faulty goods, although the onus is on the customer to prove the issue.

So item cost comes into play a £700 item could you could reasonably assume to last longer than a £30 no-name smartwatch. It's hard to argue that 2 years life before failure is reasonable for an item of this nature. You will find Fenix 3 from 5 years ago and Forerunners from 10 years ago still running fine. I have a Polar V800 from 2014 that still works perfectly. This could be evidence that failure within such a short timeframe is manufacturing defect.

I'm not. Some people here are pathetically pro-corporation and anti-consumer.

I don't actually think the $190 cost quoted for a replacement in unreasonable, but that is also a $1100 outlay coupled with the purchase price for just over 2 years usage to date....

  • The Garmin forum does show evidence of issues beyond just my unit. In fact, after only two weeks of buying it the Sapphire glass was scratched from car keys that was in the same pocket as the watch. I contacted customer care and they said that sapphire glass scratches easily.  I guess that should have been an indication of the quality.

I’ve had other altimeter watches that are still running after 10+ years. My Apple Watch is still in great shape after 2 years and it was only $400.  Sure, $190 isn’t terrible but tack that on the $900 and the possibility it fails again in a year or so.

  • I have the Fenix 6s pro, and can only get 3 days of use out of it.  That is WITH:  regular use of tracking activities with GPS, heart rate monitoring.  That is WITHOUT: smart notifications, watch faces, and pulse ox.  I spoke with customer service who said I should be getting at least 4-5 days after 2 years.  I did all the resets recommended with no luck, and was offered a refurbished watch for $150.  After spending $600 I don’t feel like I want to spend $150 on a refurb garmin.

  • Incredible it is happening to me too. 90 days warranty for the refurbish one. Can you believe it?

  • The 90 days warranty is interesting, because it is illegal in the European Union. In the EU, a commercial seller needs to grant at least a one year warranty on used goods. Does anyone have experience about Garmin's refurbished warranty in the EU? Are they also only giving 90 days?
