anybody else have a 1 second delay from the watch face to a menu [ e.g the first press of the start button for activities or going from watch to widgets ] , this is with a garmin standard watch face not a downloaded one , after the initial first button everything else is snappy fast but when i press it for the first time its a 1 second delay , its bugging me , also this is version 20.00

  • I've had this since I got a replacement watch from Garmin through an out of support replacement. The old watch was fine, but the replacement arrived and this was the case from the beginning. The watch face I use is the standard built-in one just tuned slightly - I use green separators and show steps instead of barometer. This is the same configuration I had with the pre-replacement watch.

Since the new one showed up I have gone through the various public releases and a few beta cycles and nothing has improved it. I have a current case open with Garmin but there has been no progress on it for around a month.

From my searching through Reddit and these forums, one or two people managed to get a replacement device from Garmin which fixed it. I'm hoping for a software fix as the experience of swapping one 6X Pro with another was miserable through losing all the training status data from the watch and having to convince it again of my fitness levels.

  • Same issue after the 20.30 update.... great watch, poor SW verification before releasing versions Disappointed

  • This can be observed when the watch is not used for a long time. I'm at work 12 hours. I'll turn on the way home and 1 second is a delay. If I test the same combination twice and three times, they react immediately.

Try it please only after 15 seconds wait.

  • I can observe this on 3 Fenix 6 in the house running 18.77b, 19.30 and 20.42

Top right button for Activities on 1st press has about a 1 second delay. Go back to watchface and 2nd press and further presses there is no delay

Go back to watchface then wait 20 or 30 seconds and 1 second delay appears again after 1st press, then it is almost instant on further presses.

If I have to guess the Apps are not loaded into memory until the button is pressed, they are cached then unloaded if not used for a while.

I do not really see this is a problem from my point of view...I go on two hour runs, so a 1 second delay really doesn't concern me honestly.

  • In my observation the delay is present as soon as the backlight goes out. Go back to the main menu, wait for the backlight to dim and then press a button and the delay is there. It’s most prevalent with the Activity button - pressing Down isn’t quite the same delay. The worst of all is the long press for the menu, which feels like forever.

I’ve wondered if the watch enters some kind of sleep mode when the backlight goes out, perhaps a power drop associated with battery conservation, which it then needs to wake itself out of. Though clearly, if it was a simple fix, Garmin would have resolved it by now - people have been complaining of this for quite a while.

  • Put the AIRPLANE MODE - ON, and the problem disappear....it's not the best solution, but it works for me...

That is one of the silliest ideas I've ever seen!

    1) Putting the device into Airplane mode actually takes longer than the tiny delay everyone is talking about!

    2) You can't use any external sensors in that mode.

  • Weird thing, with some iq watch faces I have the opposite behaviour... The watch is reactive at first press going into widgets, slow at second one if case still in high power mode.

    Interesting points:

    - seen this with 2 similar watch faces very alike (infocal and kustomized, both using rotated fonts)

    - both seem to be able to prevent high power mode of the face itself with wrist turn (like once in low power they only perform a partial screen update per minute of the affected data, surely the minutes and then can be steps if they have increased, or notification count in case of variation in the meantime, like discarding notifications on the phone)

This way, basically always I get instant reaction when I go to the widgets, slow when I come back to the face or if I go to widgets again withing I think 8 seconds

    Just sharing...
