Battery issues after update 19.20

After updating my Fenix 6X to version 19.20, my battery is draining extremely fast. I took my watch off the charger at 0600 this morning with 100% and by 1400 it was already down to 70% charge. Before the update I would maybe be at 97%. I haven’t even used the device to track any activity, listen to music, and my pulse ox is turned off.

  • Same here never had much issues with battery but seems like it's draining extremely fast since I updated

  • Mine did this as well. I did a reset of the watch and it's back to normal.

  • Yes, a power down, then if necessary a reset should be the first things to do after an update.

  • Same here, current drain is 1.1% per hour - unacceptable

  • Yes, a power down, then if necessary a reset should be the first things to do after an update.

    I agree completely with this.

Additionally, in regards to this particular 19.20 update, I noticed an increase in battery life after the most recent update to the Garmin Connect Mobile App on my phone - Version 4.47.0.27 on iPhone.

Maybe with all the new features Garmin Connect was communicating too much with the watch, thus causing decreased battery life?  And maybe this most recent GCM update has dialed back on this and as a result increased watch battery life?

That's a lot of maybe's and supposition, but a GCM update couldn't hurt - might even help.

  • Same here, about 30% per day
Before the update batery lasted 7 days, today 3 days

hopping fast solution for this issue

  • I always find my battery usage goes down dramatically after I do a hard reset and restart after using an activity like golf.

  • Same here, about 25% per day with no activities, power down made no difference for me.

  • Me too

My battery life is awful now.

    Fenix 6s

It's nearly half what it was (and i had pulseOx on all day before). I'm basically getting a day less endurance for approx 50% battery consumed. I was getting around 2.5 days and now it's approx around 1.5.

    I'm in touch with Support.

They gave me various things to trial (getting rid of all connectIQ stuff, hard restart and clearing REMOTESW folder contents)

Initially battery consumption improved, after removing all (only 3 lol) connectIQ apps.

I added one back in and battery life got a bit worse.

I then removed said app and battery life has actually been even worse. Last measure (over 8.45 hours) was 2.17% p/h. This was literally doing nothing with the watch except having it on my wrist and it doing all the standard background tracking that it should do i.e. steps, floors, heartrate etc.

I've just tried removing CPE.BIN (garmin support said to try removing all files in the watch's REMOTESW folder), so will see if that helps at all. I thought i was told this would force a refresh of the firmware. I've certainly not been invited to install the firmware again.

Having said this, i googled CPE.BIN and it appears to be with to do with GPS satellite positions i.e. basically what A-GPS does. Maybe it does something else on garmin devices.

I've not used GPS tracking for anything recently, so i can't see why that would be a battery drain but i have to trust that support mentioned it for a reason. I know some functions can use GPS e.g. altimeter & barometer (but i've got that turned off).
