Fenix 6 Series - 19.20 Public Release

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

We understand this post of 19.20 is in reverse of what we usually do, but nevertheless, we didn't want to miss an opportunity to post the public release candidate, which is now rolling out to 20% of users. We know many are eager to begin using this update. Enjoy!

Please ensure that you are downloading the correct beta software for your specific device.

Instructions for installation are available below the change log on each of the above pages.

  • You need to reboot your device and test sleep tracking the next night

  • This update has completely crashed my Fenix 6x Sapphire, won't reconnect to "connect", screen locks on "sensor software was updated". Reset everything on phone and watch, starts to go through the process of reconnecting but then won't sync, tried so many thing but removing the device from the phone and master reset on watch to go through it all again and still nothing. Tried connecting through laptop, still nothing. Left watch on overnight with power just in case, nothing, excet for "storm warnings" buzzing every so often. Happy to take suggestions

  • Is anyone able to advise on how to roll back this update?

  • It's always listed in the installation instructions:

    7. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, drop the gupdate.gcd file found in the System_Backdate_v*** folder in the \GARMIN directory NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.

  • Thank you.  I've never updated nor rolled back anything and therefore have never read installation instructions.  Always relied on the auto updates - which in this instance seems to be some kind of test software (beta?) that I wasn't aware I'd signed up for.

  • The public release candidate posted here (same as public 19.20) is the one I installed manually and I've had no issues with it. But they did stumble with 19.10 and when some never got the GPS update. *** happens, no big deal for me but they could have gone more public on the issues they had and why.

  • hi support team staff / product team (jeff_5f00_odsweng)

    Fenix 6s owner.

19.20 was pushed to me via garmin express. I did not even get a choice whether to install (i do with apps). It just registered in garmin express during a charge and it was there to install after disconnection.

My battery consumption is horribly poor now (compared to all previous versions).

    I'm very unhappy with it.

Literally 9% in 6 hours and i've done nothing with it.

It's literally just been on my wrist. No sessions of any sort, not tracking, no GPS, etc.

    • Clock face is minimalist (i turned off seconds to economise on battery after purchase and it's digital, not analogue).
    • I do have my pulseOX on all the time but must stress this has been the case since post-purchase configuration, so my battery consumption comparison is including its usage.

Just as a comparison, the last 2 previous usages (between charges) got me, presumably under v16.70:

    • 3 days with 51% battery usage and minimal tracking (20 mins GPS and 1 x 30 mins meditation)
    • 2 & 2/3 days with 61% battery usage and a good amount IMO of GPS tracking (nearly 6 hours hiking / 22.5km + 1 x 42 mins meditation)

Btw, i log my exact charge and usage to keep an eye on endurance and watch performance, so can cite the above with complete confidence

If my no activity usage sticks to the 9% in 6 hours, that's significantly under 1 and a half days (1.39 days) on 50% battery use i.e.  approx double the consumption compared to build 16.70. And we know that usage isn't linear, so it could be worse than this :(

    Please can you help me?

I will find it EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING though if you expect me to reset my watch. I hope it can be more constructive and less destructive than that.

    regards,

    Gary
