Buying a fenix as a watch not sportwatch

I'm thinking about buying a fenix and using it as a watch and maybe some navigation i don't care about fitness features much beside sleep tracking  i hate other smartwatches because of battery life and OLED screens (raise to wake and burning issues).

I know Fenix is too expensive to use it just for this type of use but I would like to know if anyone has an advise or any opinions?

  • It makes a great every day watch. Not much else to say. You'll probably get a battery life of about 10-14 days if not using GPS and exercise tracking.

  • Maybe look upon lower Garmin devices such as FR245 or below if that's all you want to do with it. It will cost you a lot less while having about the same "smart features". They tend to have a pretty good battery life and aren't OLED. Go check them out ;)

  • And very expensive one Grinning

    Do you have a fenix?

What are you using for ?

I do weigh lifting but i don't see any benefits using smartwatch for it

  • I know but i hate plastic and chip feeling watches.

  • I personally like my 6x very, very much as an "everyday watch."

  • I had a FR645 and I never got that feeling of a cheap watch. I don't know for the FR245 and below. But I guess that FR245 should be close to the feel of a 645. Maybe not a FR55, but I can't say for sure.

RN I have a Fenix 6 saphire and it's awesome. My glass haven't gotten a scratch on it for a year and half even if it's gotten some hit on it. Battery life is good too.

If you don't mind the on screen animation while working out, FR245 will give you about the same experience while working out in a gym.

FR245 have the same case as the Venu2 and that's what my girlfriend have. It doesn't feel cheap either.

    Hope it helps!

  • There are Huawei and other not outdoor activities watches with a good battery life with battery durations of a week or more. Just search on internet

  • I think most of us posting in here have a Fenix Grimacing
Fenix 6 pro Sapphire is what I have and I couldn't be happier with it. I do all my fitness tracking with it along with a edge 830 and an HRM pro. Running, cycling and swimming are the most frequent activities. That being said I use the smartwatch features daily just like you would any other smart watch. I get about 6-7 days of battery with the use I give it. Sleep tracking is pretty much the first thing I look at when I wake up and it works really well for me.
One thing I'll recommend if you're a brute like I am; get a bezel protector from aliexpress.

  • "Too expensive" is relative. Some people have to save for months to buy a watch as expensive as a Fenix 6, for others it barely affects their expendable cash. So, not knowing anything about you or your budget, I can't really comment on that.

But I will say that *if* price is a concern for you, there are other Garmin watch offerings that fit your criteria and cost significantly less. Instinct, for example, does everything you're asking for and only costs $200 (but lacks street maps). You could also get a Fenix 5X or 5 Plus for slightly more ($300-$350) which does have street maps, and a color screen. All of those have excellent battery life.

If price is not really a major concern for you, then yes, absolutely the Fenix 6 will work great for what you are wanting. While it's of course a fantastic fitness and activity tracking watch, you don't HAVE to use all that functionality, you can just use it as a basic watch with sleep tracking if you want. Here in California right now, it's been too hot and smokey for me to really do anything, so those things are pretty much all I've been using mine for lately.

  • Thanks for your opinion i really appreciate it.

I'll buy Fenix 7 when it comes out
