Buying a fenix as a watch not sportwatch

I'm thinking about buying a fenix and using it as a watch and maybe some navigation i don't care about fitness features much beside sleep tracking i hate other smartwatches because of battery life and OLED screens (raise to wake and burning issues).

I know Fenix is too expensive to use it just for this type of use but I would like to know if anyone has an advise or any opinions?

I pray they are not going OLED it's not practical for smartwatch especially sportwatches they consume more power and not great for outdoor use.

I have a feeling(from what I've been reading) they are going to go OLED raise to wake. Time will tell.

Ya, I don't know what Federonic has been reading, but realistically it's very unlikely they will stick an OLED screen in a Fenix, except maybe as an "upgrade" option to the standard MIP display. Only a very, very small minority of Fenix users want an OLED screen, and if Fenix 7 came out only in an OLED model, most prospective buyers would just wait until Fenix 8 when hopefully Garmin fixes their poor marketing decision ;)

I have an Omega Planet Ocean and a limited edition Bremont as well as a Fenix 6x Pro Sapphire. Guess which I wear the most? The Fenix. With the brown strap and contrasting black case and sapphire lens it is a very good daily wear. Great for Bluetooth connections to my iPhone and messages are easily read. Battery life is stellar. I've also had Apple Watches which, as toys, I've sold. No device will be perfect but the Garmin works for me.

I’ve got the Fenix 6 Pro for the same reasons you want one.
OLED screens are useless in bright daylight. I mainly do a lot of hiking, camping, mountains etc. I got one for nav, grid references, temp, barometer, altimeter, storm warnings and that kind of thing. Other things that decided it for me was no useless touch screen (useless in rain/ ice), 100m water resistance, bombproof build and battery life that last longer than the awful apple watch which is about a day if you’re lucky.

It would be a bad move for Garmin to go touchscreen/oled. I don't think they'll be this stupid.

Says who? If you like the watch and it meets your needs and budget then buy it.

AMOLED screens are a big nono at this level simply not just of viewability, but screen burn. I rarely disagree with DCR but he's utterly wrong here. Those screens are terrible in sunlight and transflective screens walk over them for quality.

I'd be interested to see how you do solar charging and AMOLED. as AMOLED/LCD screens are light emitting, that would interfere with passing through solar radiation for charging.
