Load significantly less for similar effort activities since 19.10 update

Since updating to the 19.10 update two days ago the load after activities is recording significantly lower when compared to other similar activities.

For example, I ran 12km today & it calculated 51 load, vs a 7.7km run on Wednesday (pre-software update), which recorded 240 load. I actually ran slower of the Wednesday run & the zones captured off my HR monitor match this. I always exercise with my HR monitor (including today), so I know my readings are as accurate as they can be.

What’s the go here? How can this be rectified? It’s messing with my training stats & its pissing me off.

  • I received an email this morning from Garmin asking whether I use an external HR monitor (chest strap monitor), which I do. They have said while the resolve this issue to not wear if (or at least unpair the two devices from one another). Hopefully that’s a sign that they may have isolated the issue.

  • If you look back at the data I’ve posted you’ll see that at least with my F6 Sol Pro the connection with HRM-Pro worked just as well as using WHR. But certainly worth checking using WHR to see if it makes any difference

  • That’s very interesting, thanks for sharing! I’ve been using the Polar optical HR sensor for running and biking. I didn’t have it on today’s hike (28k) and the Training Effect did seem quite reasonable (Aerobic TE: 3.0). So I will try my next run without any external hr sensor and will see.

  • Im using a Garmin HRM Run strap with my Fenix 6X Pro Solar Titanium ver 19.21 BETA and my training load seems ok compared to earlier runs.

  • I posted this on the 19.21 thread but wonder....

    People with external HRM

Are those with busted TE/Load's using ANT+ or BT to connect their HRM? As in the 19.21 thread the people saying they're getting ok data are using a variety of brands - but I wonder if those with problematic figures are using BT to connect their HRM rather than ANT+ - which could suggest it's a Sensor Hub bug and would explain why it's only certain people?

  • Im using my HRM Run with ANT+. The sensor hub software did update with the 19.20 version. I did not have 19.10 so i dont know if it was updated then. Maybe its related to the sensor hub software like you wrote.

  • I am using a polar h10 but I think I have it under ant now you are mentioning it. Working fine though

  • I think the Garmin external HR straps are ok, I use a myzone & in the email they said to try cease using it & rely on the WHR to see if this ‘fixed’ the issue. I went for a run this morning & load was back on track. So it looks like it might be some external HR monitors that this is a problem with.

  • I use Bluetooth, so you might be onto something there. What is ANT+?

  • So the 19.21 beta seems to have fixed the problem for you? I guess I should give it a try then.

Today I went for a run (15k with hills) and relied on the built-in wrist HR sensor and it finally worked - performance condition +5, aerobic TE 4.3, Load 167. (FW version 19.20.)
